Deny Beruff's Mitigation Bank Permit a Ploy to Destroy our Environment

Hurricane Hermine's effects on this area should be reason enough to protect our wetlands. Guys like this developer are crooks and deserve to be shot down everytime. Save our sensitive environment.

He is a poster child for what bad development has done for this state. Deny this plot!!

This is just another bid to damage the environment for his personal gain by manipulating government regulations and his political connections.

Definitely contrary to the public interest, an environmentally horrible project !

PLEASE help preserve our wildlife before it becomes completely extinct.

We must protect and preserve our natural habitat. The kicker is that the mitigation bank proposed by Mr. Beruff has a break along the shoreline that would allow for a future boat channel to accommodate his marina development. This will not protect the environment.

Save Long Bar, it's too sensitive a habitat to play with.

This issue needs careful consideration. Although, on first glance, it seems like the permit should be opposed, we need thoughtful discussion as to what would happen if it is denied. Based on Florida Statutes on mangrove trimming, it is possible that much greater damage could occur, if the permit is denied, and if the applicant were to develop the property as individual home sites that have riparian right and that would result in as much as 65% of the mangroves being trimmed down to just 6 feet, and scores of private docks along the shoreline resulting in seagrass destruction due to boat traffic to and from these docks. All of that is permissible and permittable under present Florida Statutes and FDEP policies. We need to be sure we do the right thing for the environment.

Protect the habitat by slowing down the growth. Has Beruff proved to the state agency responsible for wetland permitting an adequate justification of a need to impact wetlands? And the evidence that the use of wetland bank credits are the most environmentally preferable method? Probably not since he is a developer who wants to cut a channel it would seem that personal interests are more valuable to him than environmental concerns. State environmental agencies need to protect our natural resources instead of yielding to pressure from what their developer buddies want.

Do not capitulate to this man, who is driven by greed to despoil vital coastal areas. Once they are gone, they are gone forever.

Please deny the permit Stop developing our wetlands and grasslands. We do not have the roads and bridges to accommodate more people.

Beruff, the Chinese Drywall developer has done enough damage to the Sarasota area. He must be stopped -whatever he does next will be with us forever.

Growth is not always a good thing. Current residents are already prohibited from enjoying the area due to the significant traffic. Isn't the area's infrastructure already in jeopardy? How will the island handle more cars, people, buses, etc....
