Our Catholic churches say that ALL are welcome in this church. The priest of three churches in Gloucester states that straight, gay, any other, are welcome. ALL are welcome. ALL, also in neighboring towns. Please consider changing that sign. Shame on you in this day and age. The devil is working very hard to corrupt our people's today. Everyone should be welcomed in God's house.

What a lovely proposal for a sign. Given the discrimination present in our society still this ign sends a wonderful message of love and inclusion.

No one is suggesting you invite people into your kitchen. This is a church saying that THEY are welcoming. Who are you to bend their policy to comply with your bias?

'All are welcome' is the most Christian of welcomes! The most important Improvement I can imagine the Village Improvement Society needs is to open their minds and hearts.

Our past/current form of a Total acceptance by all Churches of the fairness and decency doctrines have been trying to Evolve but have had problems. May I allay those problems: Unkind citizenry and the acts, comments and efforts that turn away from the warnings by and of our Religious Disciples, must and need very much to stop embracing the un-Christ-like attitude of Radical Christians and those who have held disdain for love and compassion for all people - regardless of sexual identity (a very real state of spirituality, being and mindfulness), as well as the color and/or Nationality of any human being. Please realize this is our human evolution in progress. Accept diversity. You will in the end be very glad you did.

Having grown up around the corner from there, and (now) visiting there each year, I can't imagine what the issue is, save that some on the VIS are on the wrong side of history. I look forward to seeing "OPEN & AFFIRMING" next time I am in Dennis Village.

I am appalled that anyone voted against this sign. It is tasteful, beautiful, and it sends the exact message that Jesus taught...love everyone. Discrimination is divisive, Love is unifying. I hope this church will keep their sign, no matter what...even if it takes a gofundme page to pay the fines every year...it is worth it for the message.

This is not my church, but it IS the town I grew up in... it is walking distance from my parents' house... and it is the church my husband did grow up in... It is the church we almost got married in (but ultimately chose, ironically, a more inclusive church in the Unitarian Church)...It is the church where my husband's cousin was ordained and married... It is the church where we had my father-in-law's funeral. It is the church where our family helps with the annual auction every August. So this is not my church, but it is an important part of my community. I would hope that true Christians can put aside misunderstanding and fear and evolve to welcome ALL. If we are not all made to feel welcome at church, then where else? How can we expect people to be more peaceful and accepting if we as Christians cannot even set such an example? I hope and pray that this board reconsiders.

The kind of overkill is the sort of nonsense that makes people resist reasonable historic preservation measures. I'm fairly sure there's signs with brightly colored ice cream cones painted on them in historic Dennis. I don't think this subtle rainbow design is any more unsightly than that.

Although I am far away, Dennis Union Church is still my "home". I am shocked that the VIS BoD made this decision which ONLY could be based on personal bias and discrimination. The new sign is a wonderful thing. I would be proud to have that in front of my church.
