Demand town hall meeting to inform College Township residents about the future of their EMS/Fire services

College township residents should be involved in the decision to contract with Mount Vernon EMS/Fire services instead of the current College Township EMS/Fire services. Having already had their taxes increased—in an effort to buy time for the township to secure more funding to keep the fire department running—the residents deserve to have their opinions heard before the Mount Vernon City Council votes on the proposed contract. This contract could leave the Gambier fire station unmanned until December 1, 2021. The College Township residents, including Kenyon students and faculty, must demand a town hall so that this crucial information can be shared and understood by all. PLEASE NO DONATIONS.

I have been hearing so many concerns from neighbors about the safety of our fire services and it is clear that we all feel left in the dark. This is far larger than I ever imagined when I first hit publish on this page. Thank you for making it clear that this decision should not be made behind closed doors.

Gambier residents voted to increase our taxes to keep our local fire station, not to have our tax money go to Mt Vernon while we lose service and experience longer response times, putting our lives at risk. Gambier residents deserve to have our voice heard before decisions that affect us directly are made.
Changing from soft billing to hard billing residents at worst a deadly mistake that will stop people from seeking emergency medical care, and at best a fast track to medical debt for anyone who requires EMS services; even if another person is the one to call the ambulance.
I am concerned for the current and future residents of Gambier. Delayed response times, increased stress on neighboring departments, CTFD members losing their jobs, and the transition from soft to hard billing (people that call 911 will be charged regardless if they are able to afford payments/have insurance). We need to stand against this merger and be heard by the township.
The Fire Department in Gambier is not like Fire Departments in other municipalities. It is an integral part of the community, and as such the community deserves a chance to be party to the decision-making process.
Representative government. Enough said. Open meetings and opportunity for community comment before a vote are integral to the process of making an informed, representative decision.

We need CTFD coverage all summer, for residents and historic buildings. We passed the levy for extra taxes, to maintain the Gambier department full time.

The residents of Gambier should have the ability to be heard on this matter BEFORE any decisions are made. Elected officials listen to your constituents! There should be a period of time for public comment regarding this proposed change. My daughter will be a first year student at Kenyon this fall. Multistory, high density dorm buildings must have fire/ EMS coverage with rapid response times. The dorm buildings are old and likely do NOT meet current building standards because they are grandfathered in which makes reliable fire protection even more important. Additionally, hard billing could deter students from calling 911 in case of emergency.
