Shame on Ina May Gaskin and midwives still sharing her resources with expectant mothers.

This is unacceptable. Something needs to be done to respond to this. Silence on this will not be tolerated.

I always kept a side eye to ina may and a lot of natural childbirth rhetoric; I now see why it is so reprehensible. Thank you for highlighting and explaining this important issue

So sad that Ina May's views have been corrupted!

To ignore historical and continuing injustices towards women of colour is to show one's ignorance and level of privilege. Black women and all women of colour face incredible barriers to care that disallow them the same opportunities as white and privileged women. This cannot be ignored and those who have power within the birthing community like Ina May Gaskin have a moral obligation to educate themselves and fight for justice for ALL peoples. She needs to be held accountable and the community at large needs to see a shift in supporting women of colour.

Embarrassed to just be learning this now-- I'd somehow missed her prior transphobic statements. I agree that she needs to evolve or step aside, and the larger birth community needs to disavow her racist and transphobic views.

It's so disappointing that when someone who has such a large following and has had such a huge impact on women and how we birth, is unwilling to step out of there bubble and look reality in the face. It can be hard work to rebuild your reality and truly hear and understand what others are going through but that's life. That's how we improve and move forward. Shame on IMG, and anyone else who contributes to the endangerment of people of color by simply ignoring reality.

I'm so disappointed. I had admired Ina May for her work for women's reproductive health and autonomy, but I want no part of any activism that sidelines the needs of women of color like this. Our black sisters deserve better than white feminism in birth work.

I am horrified that IMG is ignoring the MASSIVE amount of research designating racism... ALL BY ITSELF... as a risk factor for black women. Black women deserve much more respect and understanding than white supremacy offers. I continue unlearning my own white privilege and am listening, my black midwife and doula friends. Thank you for all you do.
