An apology doesn't change IMG's true feelings towards communities of color. Furthermore, to witness folks in that room who claim to be ally's sit quietly and not speak up, suggests that anglo birth workers talk a good talk. It is time RISE UP and be a voice for our community. IMG's opinion towards women of color preaches hate and contributes directly to poor perinatal outcomes.

I'm very upset and disturbed to hear such racist, unfounded statements made, in a public, educational forum no less, made by a woman who is looked up to as towering figure in the field of midwifery.

This is incredibly disappointing. As another commenter said - she may have helped shape the past birth community, but there's no place for her in the future of our birth community with views like these.

This is depressing, but unsurprising. Many BPOC women have been saying Ina May was racist, anti trans, and problematic. BPOC community deserve a REAL apology, with REAL change.

Spewing antiblack stereotypes about Black people giving birth is inexcusable. Dismissing empirical facts about Black birthing outcomes is unconscionable. ICAN and TBN owe Black birth workers and parents both an apology and accountability for hosting an antiblack bigot as keynote speaker.

This hurts my heart to hear Ina May seriously believe in the birth and health outcomes of "WOMEN" yet be so dismissive to women of color as if we don't deserve to be classified and offered the same quality care and respect. Many look up to this woman. We read book after book in Doula and Midwifery training to realize we stand by someone who only views healthy birth and motherhood for White woman. Somehow WE colored woman are the main cause of our babies demise NOT a system that deliberately counts many colored women out and hardly informs them through evidence-based birth education. I'm disgusted and appalled at her response.

Ina May has done done important work in the past, but her statements clearly show that she has no part to play in the way forward. Time to distance the moment from this racist and damaging rhetoric.
