Taxpayers have a right and, some say, a responsibility to see how their municipality is spending and saving. Citizens must be informed and involved in their local government including its budget, and whether it has borrowed from itself to balance the books
The taxpayers of the city of Danville Illinois ask that the office of Vermilion County States Attorney conduct an independent outside forensic audit of the spending of public funds by the office of the Mayor and the Danville city council. We ask for this audit out of concerns that public funds are being used in a manner and for uses that funds were not allocated and out of a general loss of confidence and fear of malfeasance. We are of the opinion that our voice has been lost in the rush to spend on projects that we have little to no opportunity to either oppose or endorse and that the best interest of the community has been pushed aside for personal agendas.

I honestly cannot believe how many people have shown up for this because usually things like this just drift into the void but now it feels like the city might actually have to pay attention to us for once. It is just swirling in my head thinking about all the questions we finally get to ask if this audit happens and honestly the momentum is just wild right now.

I believe an audit is appropriate at this time. Especially since our mayor and aldermen have decided to close our largest firehouse to "save money".
I completely agree. The "mayor" is willing to close a fire station to endanger the citizens of his city. And to do this he is willing to spend countless dollars on building a road connecting holiday hills but our so called budget can not support the growing pensions of our public safety personnel. But hell let build a road and a useless riverfront plaza.
There has been a lot of Grant money spent on frivolous visual upgrades. They need fire houses all operational for peoples's well being!
Enough is enough! Has the city taken monies from one dept. to pay another? I want to know where our tax money has gone and where it is going.
I believe transparency in all government actions is a necessity. The City of Danville should welcome this opportunity to prove our tax money is being used wisely & as it has been presented to the community
This should have been done a long time ago!
I think this is past due,we should all be monitored at some point. You can't keep raising our taxes each year to pay for government spending.

Although the center of some streets have had landscaped island's installed, it's a waste of tax payers money when more important things need done. LOWER TAXES.
