The incident took place during the mixed doubles match between Wang Chuqin / Sun Yingsha (China) and Hugo Calderano / Bruna Takahashi (Brazil). Before the match, as per ITTF procedures, Wang Chuqin submitted his racket for official inspection and sealing. However, upon retrieving the racket just before the match, it was found to be visibly damaged, with a significant tear in the rubber surface—a form of damage that clearly could not have occurred through natural wear or routine handling. The explanation given—“no one touched it”—is unacceptable in a professional sports context. Once the racket has been sealed and taken into official custody, it is the responsibility of the tournament organizers and officials to ensure its safety, integrity, and fair return. This is not only an issue of individual fairness but a matter that affects the credibility and reputation of the entire championship. Equipment is an extension of the athlete, and any compromise in this area directly impacts competitive fairness and psychological confidence. We respectfully urge the ITTF to: Launch an immediate and transparent investigation into the incident. Review and reinforce the security protocols surrounding racket sealing and storage. Communicate the findings and steps taken to ensure no recurrence of such events in future matches. Players deserve a level playing field, and fans deserve to trust in the integrity of our sport. Thank you for your attention and prompt action.

Regarding the unfair treatment Wang Chuqin has suffered, we hope the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) can provide a positive response and handling results to fans and the athlete himself. We are extremely disappointed that the ITTF has yet to release the results of its investigation. Instead of publishing an article that lacks an apology for this heinous incident and an explanation of the results, and only talks about what will happen in the future, we fans ask for nothing more than a proper and reasonable explanation, as well as the public release of the full video footage of the racket inspection at the Doha World Table Tennis Championships.
