DEMAND enforcement and transparency over Homeowner Associations

Our HOA (Sandalwood Lakes, West Palm Beach) nearly doubled our monthly fees in anticipation of an insurance increase that never came. Rather than reduce the fees, they considered it license to spend freely! PLEASE at least provide some oversight!

Please help - this is a state-wide problem. We are stuck in an HOA with escalating (more than 30% per year) dues now reaching over $490 a month with little return - and the governing Board is deaf to the financial constraints placed on owners. My townhome value has since plummeted in Leon County, and my HOA has the audacity to wish me good luck in suing them. $490 a month for a townhome with less than 1,350 sq ft. Every year I watch my fees disappear into a “General Fund” for the community - not one that supports my townhome and maintenance. Thank you for standing up for the voiceless and ignored.

Please continue working on eliminating HOAs , in particularly for stand-alone single family homes. The maintenance fees charged to homeowners are just wasted financial resources; our Board recently committed to spending 39 percent of the total annual fee income on a front entrance “vanity” project without homeowners’ approval/discussion.

Would love this, or better yet, eliminate HOA's entirely, and turn over association assets to the local cities/towns...

HOA's are not legitimate, did not serve their stated claims and are unaccountable. Homeowners should have the option to opt out and previous dues should be refunded to them.

In my opinion HOA's are unconstitutional and un-american, restricting people's rights & freedoms even overstepping the 1st amendment at times. They have also become so widespread that it is nearly impossible to buy a home that is NOT in an HOA restricted neighborhood. The shady practices of using corporate laws to ignore people's constitutional rights & freedoms needs be stopped.

I would rather the HOA be ABOLISHED, GONE, NO MORE!!! WHY make more rules for them when they dont abide by current NEW rules. We dont need an hoa when we already have a COVENANTS that imposes restrictions on land use, property maintenance, and architectural design to maintain standards and property values within a community. ABOLISH THE HOA!! ABOLISH ABOLISH ABOLISH!!

The idea that the only way to hold an HOA accountable is to hire an attorney kind of seems like a scam. There should be a governing body that oversees HOA complaints, or else do away with the whole thing.
