HOAs are abusive and damaging, especially for many elderly in Florida.

Our homeowners association is being ran like a small mafia. Senior citizens, almost asked to leave by current president who nominated volunteered and had a stellar management properties place her as community president with only four votes. The rest of the community did not approve it, and the rules of 720 statute were not followed. This needs to stop.

We need an HOA Omsbudsman as HOA board members are ripping off homeowners by violating the CCRs and stealing our monies with non essential charges. Have begged for an HOA Omsbudman for years and it has fallen on deaf ears. Documentation is available for inspection.

I am evolved in lawsuit against my HOA board for violating numerous 720 statutes. I went through 720.311 mediation before I filed my complaint. I would like to speak to you about this injustice.

Imagine having a townhouse and an HOA, yet they won't help ensure your connected neighbor addresses a termite problem through necessary treatment and enforcing a shared bill?!

And now, as we push for our first free and fair election in 25 years, the Board is again manipulating the process — mailing proxy forms around the holidays, when many are traveling, and starting the 14-day clock from the date the notice is sent, not when homeowners receive it, drastically shortening the window for participation.

They need to be audited by a public accountant auditor. Especially Tripp Scott

Subject: Urgent: HOA Governance Failures in Broward’s Largest Community
Dear Representative Porras,
I’m a homeowner in Savanna, the largest homeowners association in Broward County with nearly 3,000 homes. I’m reaching out because our community is experiencing exactly the kind of governance breakdown you’ve described in calling Florida’s HOAs a “failed experiment.”
Over the past year, our Board has taken actions that have eroded homeowner trust and effectively stripped residents of meaningful representation:
• A multi-million-dollar “special assessment” was levied for a road repaving project that appears to violate both our governing documents and state law.
• When residents attempted a board recall, we were blocked by a series of 60-day blackout periods that make it nearly impossible to meet the procedural requirements in time.
• And now, as we push for our first free and fair election in 25 years, the Board is again manipulating the process — mailing proxy forms around the holidays, when many are traveling, and starting the 14-day clock from the date the notice is sent, not when homeowners receive it, drastically shortening the window for participation.
Despite these barriers, hundreds of neighbors have organized under Savanna United, successfully registering nearly 1,000 unique homes — enough to finally reach quorum and restore democratic participation. Yet the Board’s actions continue to make holding a legitimate election nearly impossible.
For a community of this size and importance, these practices are unacceptable and emblematic of a system in need of serious reform. They deny residents transparency, accountability, and the basic right to elect their own representatives.
Your recent advocacy has given many of us hope that homeowners will finally have a voice and that meaningful change may be possible.
We wanted to bring this matter directly to your attention and would be happy to meet with you, if helpful, to share further details

My HOA are causing a financial burden. Currently, paying main HOA, master HOA, and special assessment. Fees are constantly rising. I live in a townhoise 1, 234 square feet. It's very unfair to be paying outrageous fees, maintenance on the property has declined. I hope HOA are abolish. Thank you.

There needs to be a complete ban on HOA’s or at the very least make it voluntary if you want to be part of a group. But you must be able to live where you want and live free from a system that controls you and your way of life.

Ban hoa completely. Dad bought a 60 k van and they waited until he got it and said it can't stay at a home that he pays mortgage on because they didn't like it.
