My family has been in the Hammond area for 6 generations. My ancestors came to Hammond in the 1850's. The Rodgers and Cuthberts lived on Hammond Rd and Triangle Rd. I am a summer resident in Chippewa.
The proposal to open a slaughter house in a residential area is irresponsible to the community. The waste will effect neighbors with not only undesirable odors but will reduce the value of their property. As leaders in your community you do not want to be responsible for having approved this reckless proposal for a quiet farming community. There is no good end the this project. A slaughter house is not farming. I see lawsuits in the future for your unfortunate decision.

It is past time to give residentail neighborhoods in the Town of Hammond some protection against activities that negatively impact their lifestyles and lower their property values.

Implement an immediate moratorium on all non-residential site plan evaluations, building permits, and new non-residential construction in the Town of Hammond, until such time as the Town has instituted adequate and reasonable Residential Property protections.

I am sure the town can find a better site for an abattoir/slaughterhouse. Usually these businesses are in fairly remote locations on land that has little other value.

Totally inappropriate site for this type of use. It's inconceivable that the Town Planning Board would approve an activity that would devalue the town's most valuable and sensitive land resources. It's not as though more appropriate sites do not exist. This is poor planning by any standards.

I am a property owner in Hammond and strongly support the proposal to immediately implement land use regulations under the Site Plan and Review Law. I am appalled the slaughterhouse was approved; that decision should be rescinded pending implementation of rational protections like most other reasonable communities use.

A slaughter house operation should be located in an industrial park not an existing residential neighborhood. If the project on Dubois Road goes into operation the Town of Hammond could be considered, by developers, "wide open" for any type of development in residential areas.

Lacking reasonable regulations, Hammond’s residents will be subject to arbitrary abuse from persons seeking to conduct for-profit enterprises. That is starting to occur and will accelerate unless effective measures are implemented.

We look to our elected officials to protect our investment in land located within their town borders. This protection should include a land use policy that values the protection of the land and water for generations to come. We as tax payers would like to feel we are part of a community that considers our input and contribution as important as any other community member. The proposed piece of property aka the slaughter house site is ecologically sensitive and important to the protection of the water shed and the St. Lawrence River.

Lack of proper sewage treatment is a environmental problem waiting to happen. The septic run off from this operation will create a pollution mess for the lowland areas below the ridge and in time the adjacent portion of Chippewa Bay and the river front properties.
