This should not have been given approval by the Planning Board at all. There was no notification to area residents who could be affected, and this does not belong in an area that is residential.

This is just another example of the “rights of the few” eclipsing the “rights of the many”. The town of Hammond is noted for this type of action. It appears that the board is not protecting the interests of Hammond and its citizens and is not employing any sort of thoughtful strategy in making decisions. It’s time to represent ALL taxpayers, not just a few. And it’s time to use intelligence in the planning process.

I find it deeply troubling that such an egregious proposal would have ever gotten this far. Clearly inappropriate and more than likely will be found to be in violation of environmental law, prohibiting the plant from getting the necessary permits.

I can't believe the Town of Hammond hasn't taken the steps to protect the rights of home owners before this. Who in their right mind would think putting a slaughterhouse so close to residential properties is a good idea?! Also the danger of pollution to both the River and local wells would seem to be significant.

I own the property adjacent to 54 Dubois Road and this use will have an adverse effect on my property value in the coming years. Who wants to live right next to a Rendering Plant / Slaughter House. This is truly a commercial use and should not be right next to residential housing. Thank You

(Driving along scenic Rt. 12 in Northern NY.) "What's that smell, Daddy?" "Oh, we're just driving through Hammond. Don't worry. We won't stop here." Watch property values drop, along with assessments, and watch tax income also drop for Hammond; unintended consequences of allowing this project to be approved. Where will the run-off from this rock ledge go? To the little bay within Chippewa Bay, held in by Chippewa Point. What will be the effect on wells of residences in the area? What about the marshes nearby? None of this is positive. Obviously, I am totally opposed to permitting this slaughterhouse, aka "meat processing facility" to be established on Dubois Rd. I am a part owner of Chase Crest LLC, taxpaying property owner in the Town of Hammond.

This shouldn’t be in residential area any more than Amish sawmill in residential neighborhood. Both should have been voted on by residents in Hammond not 3-4 people

Hard to believe a slaughterhouse would even be considered on such a narrow rock ledge in a residential area. My sons home is only 460 ft from this site and all the recommendations I have read for the setback from a slaughterhouse to a residence is 1500 ft. I am sure there is a good reason for this setback

Well know geologist Dr RV Dietrich, who grew up in Hammond, and has mapped all of the areas in Hammond, states "with the nearby Potsdam Sandstone, Theresa Dolomite and underlying Precambrian igneous and Metamorphic rocks, wells could be easily contaminated. This leads of course to bad press, law suits and settlements. If you even look at that rock cliff between Dubois Rd and Rt 12, it looks like the most unlikely, dangerous spot for this type of operation.

Signing this petition is an essential next step! The 18 letters of opposition we are aware of so far via two Freedom of Information requests to Hammond were just a first step. And, there will more steps as we, together, voice our opposition to the slaughterhouse proposal and engage Hammond in an appropriate outcome moving forward.
