Over the last 2 months the Grimsby Telegraph have reported on the movements of a group of Gypsy /Traveller families who are in the area and are subject to constant eviction. The Local Authority- North East Lincolnshire have no site available and refuse to provide a designated piece of land where these families can stay. Almost daily reporting in the local paper has attracted barrages of of racist comments within their "comments'forum. Gypsy people have been called scum bags, theives, low lifes animals, filthy parasites, children have been described as running like rats and commetators have suggested Camps, and that a 'man in Germany had it right circa 1935. This comes within weeks of a petrol bomb attack on a local Mosque following the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby. Humberside Police say that because no actual or direct threats have been made then no hate crime has been committed. The Grimsby Telegraph have removed some of the comments, but regard others as freedom of expression. UK Association Of Gypsy Women. 20th July 2013 [email protected] This petition calls for the Police to take action against those who have posted such racists slurrs before they escalate into violence. Humberside Police and the Grimsby Telegraph must act now to send out the message that posting such comments is not acceptable and amounts to a criminal offence Please add your name to this petition.

Updates

July 22, 2013

The Grimsby Telegraph continues to host abusive content under the guise of free speech while Humberside Police refuse to acknowledge the danger of these slurs. Send an email to the editor today demanding they shut down the comments section immediately. We need to force them to take accountability for the hatred they facilitate in our community.

July 22, 2013

We hit a meaningful milestone that proves people are finally refusing to tolerate this hate. Send the link to your local council members right now to demand they address these racist comments. Post the link to Facebook and call the police station to tell them we expect these threats to be treated like the crimes they are.

Words lead to violence. We saw it with the mosque attack and we are seeing it again now. stop the hate before someone gets killed.

The stuff people write on that site is absolutely vile. Freedom of expression doesnt give you the right to dehumanize people and talk about gas chambers. shameful.

The police are just being lazy here. If this was directed at any other group there would be arrests immediately. disgusting double standards.
