Demand Parent Engagement on NYC's G&T Programs

Si not modify G&T, it is a great program that enriches and helps improve overall schools

The G&T system needs an overhaul to be more inclusive but getting rid of it altogether fails kids, too, and will drive middle class families (like us) from the city. Many of our kids depend on G&T bc middle class and financially disadvantaged parents can’t afford private school, and regular public school in non-wealthy areas is dismal in NYC.

It’s important to help those who have traditionally been left behind by the system, but it’s important to continue to help those who haven’t. It’s not a good idea to put people against each other.

We need the G&T program

Please nurture our kids’ learning, including those of accelerated learners. Don’t pull them back because of a desire to push the lower end of the spectrum. We need to encourage and foster learning at all levels, where each student is.

Let’s accelerate this process to keep G & T programs to accelerate our child’s mind.

Let us have input into the future of G&t!!! It is completely unfair and unethical not to, especially when this was explicitly promised.

Please keep the G and T programs for our amazing neurodiverse children that need specialized education! Being gifted IS a special need that should not go unrecognized. These children need to be supported properly or we are doing a disservice to them and our world. Please believe me, as a Mom of a 2e child who needs accelerated, deeper, more compacted, outside the box learning along with supports for challenges that very often come with a higher IQ. Trust me when I say this is a need not a luxury. Inclusivity is so important but that also means giving each child the education they need and deserve. We don't all learn the same and that's something that should be embraced and celebrated. Taking away G and T is not going to benefit anyone. Children learn best when met at their level. Extreme strengths often come with certain lagging skills. Asynchronous development is a hallmark of giftedness. How can we not accommodate the way certain children need to lean? We are now learning from mistakes of the past when it comes to how certain minds are wired. We owe it to every child whether gen ed, special ed, gifted ed, or a combo to support their learning needs. G and T is a need for some. Please!

Manhattan resident/voter. If there are more G&T students than spots, make more G&T programs. Dont let ideologues dictate parents' options.

Let's be real. Not everyone is on the same level. And that's ok. My kids went to a sports camp this summer and guess what? They grouped kids based on their SKILLS.

Fully support to go back to the original G&T program. G&T is a merit-based program and it is suitable only for those who have such merit. Just like any other merit-based programs (such as NBA draft), its selection criteria should be based on merit. It would be ridiculous to choose to an NBA player not by their skills, but by self-nomination and lottery. But this is what is happening with the G&T program. If the current selection process continues, the result will be obvious - neither the gifted nor the normal students will get proper education that matches their individual needs.

I Support NYC’s G&T .

The Mayor must keep his word to hold parent engagement on G&T programs. There are many disadvantaged, low income, minority and immigrant students who have high academic ability and interest who are ignored and not supported. This a fundamental injustice to these students that need to be addressed.
