Breaking up elementary schools is an overly simplistic solution to a more difficult problem. The tax falls on siblings that can go to school together and parents who double transportation burden. I like the effort put into the proposal, but much more work needs to be done before going to a vote. Please give this more time!

Though some of the proposed changes are well thought out the "back to the future" paired schools ideas are a disaster waiting to happen. Cotswold/Billingsville and Dilworth/Sedgefield are too large (Cotsville will be 1300 students while optimal elementary size is 300-400) and the SES distribution will negatively affect the academic performance of all students. Many have already acquiesced rather than sending CMS back to the drawing board. Don't accept "solutions" that hurt children

I am neither for or against the proposal because we have not been provided nearly enough data, analysis or discussion around resources and funding to ensure it is a smart plan. In addition, there appears to be no success metrics or accountability from CMS given outgoing Superintendent and Board Members. This vote must be delayed. These are our children - let's get it right.

I strongly feel that the entire 6-year plan should be presented to CMS at one time. The idea that additional changes could be made to attendance zones yearly does not provide the sense of stability that communities need.

A change of this magnitude requires research, innovation, commitment, and consensus by those people directly affected. CMS, you will shuffle around thousands of students with your proposed plan (however noble), which may or may not succeed. In the absence of a detailed agenda for the betterment of our schools, please delay your decision and allow parents time to strategize, as the brunt of the burden falls on us.

There is a genuine concern for the lack of community schools in Charlotte....
Terry Hall has created a school that should be used as an example, not stretched to its limits.

I have one child that will be grandfathered to stay at Hough but one child that will be required to move to Hopewell. I do not think it is fair to force two kids from the same family to have two different highschool experiences. How will we choose between one son's Friday night football game and one son's marching band performance? That is unacceptable. I also support the delay because the programs offered at Hopewell need to be brought up to the same standards as Hough (electives, AP classes, marching band, orchestra, etc.). Again, unfair to allow one child to have an A school experience and the other to have a C school experience.

I agree with everyone who has asked for more time to review and comment on this proposal. I have no problem with change if it's done thoughtfully and deliberately. Change for the sake of change does not make sense. Please push this proposal out to give the community time to digest, respond and consider other options.

The proposal, associated timeline for implementation and limited amount of statistical support for the reasoning are very concerning. There are more logical solutions and the reality is that redrawing the boundaries may be a longer process, but it would likely yield a better long-term result. Please delay this vote and listen to the families involved.

I, like many of my parent counterparts, see the need for change. Big change. The kind of transformational change that requires a little more time for feedback than what has been allotted in this case. This petition is more than reasonable
