I am a mother of a 3.5 year old who is slated to attend combined Dilworth Sedgefield Kindergarten for its inaugural 2018-2019 year. Being as I am new to the area (I just purchased my home in this neighborhood primarily for the quality of its public education) and I do not currently have a child in the Dilworth system, I have not been privy to any information prior to last week's announcement. This information has completely blindsided my family and we are struggling to get a handle on the situation. Without hard data to support the proposal I am finding it difficult to put together an accurate picture of what this proposal would look like, let alone be able to provide a meaningful recommendation as to how we might better address issues of overcrowding, proximity and diversity put forth in the boards outline. Like many other parents in the area, I have relevant background and experience that I would love to contribute to the cause. With enough time to properly organize, analyze and collaborate, I am confident we can come up with a solution that meaningfully addresses the boards requirements while protecting our children's educational experience. Please delay the vote.

The proposal vote must be delayed. I know several families that are very hesitant to send their kids to both the combined dil/sedg elementary and sedg middle under any circumstances. Alternatives my neighbors and I are considering include magnet charter private school moving before they send their children to the proposed plan currently on the table. This community has been targeted several times with changes In school boundaries and Dilworth elementary issues of diversity and overcapacity pale compared to many other schools in CMS.

Wasn't this the intent of Magnet Schools in CMS? Did it not work and now the school board wants to redraw school boundaries? Why are the taxpayers still putting money into the Magnet program if it didn't work? Should this be looked at as part of the data that is missing for this rushed decision by the school board?
My children's academic future should NOT be another CMS experiment that doesn't work!!!

The plan seems to be a bad one on numerous fronts. It causes terrible disruption and much unwanted change for a few high profile neighborhoods and schools, while moving the needle insignificantly for the county as a whole.

I am concerned the current proposal will have the opposite effect of what is intended and bring down school performances with a ripple effect on property values of those neighborhoods most effected. Many of us live in our chosen neighborhoods for the schools, and considered the premium paid for housing in these areas a better value than private school tuition. A hasty reassignment plan will drive the higher performing students to private schools, which will have a net negative affect on all public schools involved in this reassignment plan. The majority of the families affected by the reassignments have to “buy in” or the plan will fail.
The vote on any plan (not just this one), should be delayed until the new Superintendent takes office and can not only buy into the plan, but be held accountable for the successful implementation.
Let’s use the time between now and when the new Superintendent takes office and to have multiple, well researched plans to vote on. #delaythevote

Why should Superintendent Clark get to propose a significant plan like this, 2 months before the new Superintendent arrives? A plan like this one certainly deserves the complete buy-in and input of the individual who will be tasked to successfully implement it.

Having kids at two different high schools one in the 12th grade and the other in 10th grade makes NO sense and will be very difficult on the parents to support the kids as well as the schools. A simple fix to this would be to allow the sibling/s of a 12th graders to remain at the school with their siblings.
