I am a concerned Morehead STEM Academy parent and would like to see this vote delayed. I feel more time is needed to gather the correct data to measure what impact this will have on our students and community.

I absolutely am against making Morehead a partial stem. I like many other parents waited, and got selected through the lottery for the opportunity for my child to go to this school. Now you (yes YOU elected official) are forcing me to send my child from a B/A school to a D school all in the name of #'s to fit your "plan". How about instead of breaking up a successful school, you *gasp* , fix the troubled schools, by bringing up the facilities, curriculum, and staffing up to par. Breaking one thing to fix another has NEVER worked. This plan provides NO BENEFIT to the current Morehead family...but you know that part already...

Do not try to force feed us a poorly planned student assignment plan, if this plan is approved, you can count on losing your seat on the board.

The solution to higher student achievement in Title 1 and high poverty schools is to change the culture of those schools and to identify additional resources and support needed that addresses the unique circumstances and challenges that this population faces. CMS needs to stop recycling failing principles and administrators. Title 1 and high poverty schools need strong principles with proven track records of success. If that means hiring outside CMS then that is what needs to be done. The buddy system and circle of family and friends hiring practices has not worked well for the students of Mecklenburg County. CMS needs to be overhauled from the top to the bottom. Most families in high poverty areas will opt to stay in neighborhood schools. Delay the vote and listen to the voice of the community.
