I believe it is important for citizens to have a voice in significant decisions such as whether or not to allow commercialization of marijuana in Valdez. Studies coming out of Colorado and Washington are showing detrimental effects on their respective communities post legalization and commercialization. It is important to learn from those who are currently dealing with the effects of commercialization/legalization. To ignore the impact of this issue in those areas, and to move forward in our community regardless, is irresponsible.

After seeing the stats. from Colorado, I respectfully ask the Council to take more time to consider this.

I too agree to wait! I can't understand why it's ok to cut and paste regulations from alcohol laws. What's the hurry? Cynthia Franklin has made the Brookings Institute list of 12 people to watch this year. Seems self serving to rush things just for political purposes. I am from Montana where medical marijuana facilities opened, I was a mail carrier for 16 years and approximately 18 months after they started I delivered 19 indictments and businesses closed owners sentenced to two years in a federal penitentiary. It is still illegal on a federal level and the federal government threatened to take our state highway funding. So much needed research is in order. I came to this town to enjoy it's great outdoors. Valdez in itself is enough reason to come here.

please reconsider and not have any dispensary or grow fasility in valdez..Pot is an addictive drug you will only have problems.When on pot you dont care and cant do complicated things.Im totaly against pot in valdez.

It is a good idea to move slowly and cautiously when making long-term decisions. Delaying this decision until more info can be gathered would be the most prudent course of action.

I surely don't want to see it here in our town! My daughter was raised here and now my Grandson! Take pride in it being our fishing town not our drug town.

I believe opting out for the first year would be the prudent thing to do. It would allow for Valdez to co sided all the possible consequences and create a plan.

As a Law Enforcement Officer I believe allowing this is much more trouble than it's worth. What comes with it will be far worse than just making a sell. Please consider the families, children, and decent Valdez citizens. Marijuana in no way is positive, or constructive. Marijuana is not productive towards society, bettering our future, or building it.

I feel it's important to gather all information about long term impacts on the community of Valdez and look at all data before rushing into opening a marijuana dispensary here in Valdez.

I am definitely for delaying this until we can get more information. As a mother will my children be safe from potentially more drivers under the influence? What will be a negative or positive impact this will have on our youth? Will we need to make stricter laws on people feeding under age children food with marijuana in it?

My issue is not the medical side of this. It's the recreational that will inevitably tag along with it as well as the individuals that are lobbying to bring it to town. If those individuals actually cared about the medical side of it and not just the money it will bring them personally. They just don't care about the community. If it's all about the medical then take it to 19 mile and set up shop there. Keep it out of town.
