We, residents of Mountain Green, Utah, demand that 1) no vote shall be taken on digging in Mountain Green (by Staker Parsons or any other company) until ALL interested residents of Mountain Green have had ample opportunity to consider the matter in more detail. (Many of us were unable to attend the hearing on Thursday, November 12th due to family/work responsibilities and many of us are still NOT content with the planning board's vote to send the matter to the Council), and 2) independent environmental and health consultants (both) be hired by the County to carefully go over any existing/future environmental/health impact reports generated by Staker Parsons (or any other company seeking to dig in Mountain Green) and to discuss with those petitioners on this list and other interested residents- prior to any digging or mining or similar activity in Mountain Green; and, finally, 3) that these requests be taken seriously and expeditiously by the Morgan County Council, who are responsible to us, the people of Mountain Green.
I was present at the meeting on Nov. 12th and it seems the Planning Board went and made recommendations even after they heard several community members speak out against the gravel pit and mining. There were many safety and environmental concerns brought up during the meeting but, it seems the planning committee did not really address any of these concerns and went ahead with their recommendation regardless of the many people who brought up laws that were being violated and other legitimate concerns. The Morgan County Council needs to adhere to the requests of this petition immediately and without hesitation!
