ISSUE: Currently, we, the future Physiotherapy Graduates of the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland do not receive our official degree parchments until the Graduation ceremony which is scheduled for late November 2012. We are eligible to work in Ireland upon receipt of successful exam results in June, however due to limited opportunities in Ireland, many of us must consider emigrating to find work and gain valuable experience in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, U.S.A and Canada. The registration and credentialing process for these countries can take over 1 year and requires our degree parchments, however the initiation of this process is being delayed a further 6 months due to our late Graduation ceremony. This is putting us at a further disadvantage abroad compared to Trinity, U.C.D and U.L students who receive their degree parchments in June and July. While we accept that moving the Ceremony to June may not be possible, we believe receiving our degree parchments upon successful examination results will put us, R.C.S.I Physiotherapy graduates on equal ground with other Irish and International graduates in terms of employment opportunities abroad. This will benefit not only us, but the reputation of the R.C.S.I Physiotherapy degree internationally. PROPOSAL: We, the undersigned wish to request that we receive our degree parchments upon receipt of successful results of final year examinations.
