The children in CT need this and the extra instruction for our teachers will help ALL students, not just those with dyslexia.

Our children with dyslexia are not receiving the proper education that they need to thrive. We have been fighting for our son to get the specific help he needs to become a thriving student yet our district has fought us on every aspect of it. Sad to see that our education system is failing our children in public schools. This needs to stop our children are our future and we need to make sure those with learning challenges/ Dyslexia are give the help theshe need to succeed.

Access and implementation for assistive technology needs to improve at all levels of education beginning as early as possible. We need to improve university training for teachers and especially special education teachers in research based reading programs using the principals of Orton Gillingham or a structured literacy approach, so that the number of such trained teachers be increased and present at every level of education in public schools through CT!

My son struggled for years before the school was willing to help make a doagnosis and then a plan to address his needs. At 13 he is still years behind and every day is a a struggle at school. Please support legislation that supports dyslexia and students in CT.

We must provide teachers with the necessary tools to instruct dyslexic students. Special Education teachers must be trained to provide dyslexic students with multisensory, evidence based decoding and encoding instruction.

If a teacher is going to go through the training it needs to be the entire 150 hours of Wilson or Orton-Gillingham. What ever method or route it needs to be complete and not just the first 50 hours. That is not productive for any child.

My daughter is 13 years old. I kept her back in Kindergarten because she couldn't read at the level of the other children throughout the year, and that's an understatement. No sight words, not even her own name. After one of her teachers wanted to retain her again in 3rd grade, she was finally tested and diagnosed with a learning disability in reading. Her special education teacher didn't really know how to help her. So, for an hour a day, my daughter sat in front of a computer completing assignments on Lexia Reads. It wasn't until she was re-tested in 5th grade that she was diagnosed with dyslexia and improved changes were made to her IEP. No child or parent should have to struggle through the system as we had to just to find out how to help their child. I expected more help than I received. This is a very difficult and frustrating process.

Children need to be tested at a early age . Not held back not to fall through the system. I am my daughter's biggest cheerleader. I don't think people know that they can have ppt meetings when they want . They need to meet the child's needs and if they can't they need to find someone who can . School needs to make teachers take classes in teaching dyslexic children learn about spire program. I never knew any of this before but I do now and am still learning because my daughter will never fall through the cracks or get taught enough to just get by. testing, extra help , extra time,. schools need to accommodate and trachers need to continue to further their education classes to help these children.

My son is 8 and he struggles everyday with having dyslexia and there is not much extra help he gets. He gets very frustrated and says no one in school understands him it is very sad and there needs to be more put in place to help kids with dyslexia.

This will be a wonderful accomplishment for all who are dyslexic. I am dyslexic and have a son who is also dyslexic. It is unfortunate that it is a battle with public school districts for proper services for dyslexics.

My 8 year old son struggles everyday with reading and writing. It hurts my heart to see him struggle. Our school system is very ill-equipped to handle his problems with Dyslexia. For as long as I can remember Dyslexia has been a problem but still it's a struggle to get my son all the help he needs.

This is a must. It's a shame we have to fight for our children to get what every other child is getting. I went to our Superintendent of school to ask for extra help and his answer was " we would all like to get our children extra help. I have to send my children here to this Town at the French language school because they don't offer that language at their school." My response was" my child not knowing how to read and your children learning French is not a good example. Choose something else." This is who is running our school system. Our children need help.

My 11 year old son has dyslexia, and it has been a time consuming and sometimes uphill battle to obtain recognition of his diagnosis from the school system. This journey has become my full time job! Although he has received special ed services since third grade, the schools were first resistant to my concerns that he had dyslexia. We sought private screening after 3 years of being told that he was not dyslexic, and sure enough, he was diagnosed with moderate dyslexia. This learning challenge occurs on a spectrum, and proper intervention like my son received should be available to all children and families in need in every school system nation-wide.
