All teachers deserved to be trained to teach ALL students how to read. It is the responsibility of CSDE to make this happen for CT educators and students.

It shouldn’t take petitions to get our kids educated the way they learn. The science of reading is pretty clear, time to get all Connecticut kids educated, the way they learn, and this should include the other 20 percent who are non traditional learners.

Hard to believe we have to advocate for something that would benefit ALL children.

Learning about dyslexia and early intervention, providing APPROPRIATE education and self advocating for their needs has been life changing for students with Dyslexia. Keep up the good work!

I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner and the number of Connecticut children who are misdiagnosed and undiagnosed is unconscionable.

I have a child who has dyslexia. Our current education system is not designed to teach to the dyslexic child. Our schools are also not equipped with the tools to diagnose dyslexia. Due to this my son was not diagnosed until the end of the fourth grade. I had to have a neuropsychological exam done and we paid out of pocket. We are fortunate enough to have the funds to pay for this but many families are not. Our current education system needs to change so that all learners feel they all can learn and be successful.

There is much work to be done in districts across the state for students with Dyslexia and those who may not have Dyslexia, but require structured literacy to learn how to read. Ignoring the science is totally unethical.

As a person with dyslexia, I can fully understand the stress my child goes through daily. In 2019 we should have more assistance available for children with dyslexia then when I was in elemantery school. We want the best for the next generations so it is our duty to help them learn and give them all available resources

I am so relieved to hear about this effort. My daughter has been struggling since Kindergarten. I have talked to the school year in and year out only to be brushed off or told, "she'll grow out of it". It has been absolutely heartbreaking to watch her try persistently and not know how to help her properly. The schools have failed at meeting her needs and as a concerned parent I have resorted to try and address the issues on my own at home through online Structured Literacy programs. I am relieved to find out we are not alone in this struggle with the public school system. It is absolutely unacceptable to wait for an intervention until the fourth grade - in the meant time these kids are suffering emotionally and socially unnecessarily. The proper interventions should be in place.

It's not all about sports. Schools need to concentrate on helping children learn to the best of their abilities.
