My son was identified as dyslexic at 13 privately. And now we start on our quest of repairing him because the emotional damage is immense. This HAS got to stop!

Kids should be afforded the right to the education that they best respond to not the one size fits all outdated, conformity producing, creativity killing, embarrassment of a system currently in place!!!

Dyslexics are successful when they have parents that fight for their right to learn. Keep up the GOOD WORK. It's worth the fight. I know as a parent of 3 students that have succeeded. The fight was worth it.

The state educational department should have someone heading this department who is very well versed in Structured Literacy and what type of instruction is needed to include all the strands of Scar Borough’s Reading Rope. Also very, very important is that this individual hired to head the Dyslexia task force should be well informed in regard to Dyslexia and Reading and Writing difficulties for all ages and across the board Kindergarten through 12th grade. Research states that Connecticut is at the top 3rd percent for students having learning gaps due to not having solid foundational skills in Literacy. We need to see a turn around in these percentages. Come on CT state department…. I know this state department can do better!! Hopefully this will be done right for current students and for our future generations of students. Also, we need the middle school and high school students to receive the correct evidenced based Structured Literacy Intervention as well as the elementary students to allow all these students who are currently struggling the right to be able to read and write with automaticity and proficiently especially because it’s not their fault they were taught to guess at words and not properly taught how to segment and break apart words in order to sound out words proficiently. Let’s make sure all students in CT have access to the appropriate intervention by hiring a well qualified individual to oversee this department who understands all the facets of Structured Literacy and Dyslexia as a whole. By ensuring this position is appropriately filled, our educational systems across all of CT will improve in all areas of Literacy. And, please don’t be naive and think the wealthier areas are not seeing these gaps just as much as the un-wealthier areas. These gaps are not being addressed at any of these schools. The older students in Fairfield county are seeing the same gaps as some of their neighboring towns within CT. It is widespread and these students are bein

We need legislators who are not afraid to mandate equal access to education for ALL student. Requiring systematic structured literacy education cost too much because government and educational institutions are avoiding mandating it. Mandate it and create the jobs needed and the competition for the jobs. Give our students the tools to succeed.

We need all students both general education and dyslexic students who are struggling to read whether it be in Kindergarten or any grade up to grade 12 to receive an evidenced based individualized Structured Literacy instruction/intervention depending on what and where each student is and needs in order to fill their gaps in Literacy.
