Please consider our request of a 10 lane pool which is needed is needed for our kids. There is nothing locally available. These kids stay out of trouble with their commitment to club swimming.

If the current pool is running at capacity with lessons and swim club how does keeping the same help the community? Does council ever look at keeping costs down by reducing their salaries & expenditures??

It has been said that the current 8 lane proposal will allow for growth for the next 40 years!! Sorry it will not accommodate current demand as city programs and Swim Club opportunities are already limited by the current pool. How will making it smaller help? It appears all other aspects such as hot tub, gym are doubling in size while adding courts and pickle ball at the expense of pool big enough for both city and competitive programs to grow.

The replacement for Canada Games Pool must be up to National level competitive swimming standards; it should be a swimming pool with 10 lanes, a warm up/down tank and sufficient deck and stand space. A modern and well design structure is needed in order to host Provincial, National and International events.

I would like council to consider all aspects of service that a new pool will provide the community. As well as leisure needs, competitive swimming needs benefits the community. Having a competitive club in the pool brings dollars into the community in the form of rental revenues and revenues realized by spending that occurs from patrons coming into the community. Having competitive sports engages youth in a positive way which also provides a great service to the community. Finally, providing excellence in spots is motivating for all people with respect to pursuing an active lifestyle.

Athletics based facilities are a treasure, it inspires good qualities for generations, which is something at risk right now. Keep the pool!

I really empathize with the difficult decisions in front of counsel. I have seen this happen more and more, as infrastructure is a local government decision and they are all struggling to balance the increasing costs with meeting current and future community needs. There is often provincial and national infrastructure funding once the decision has been made, but the long-term costs sit with the community and that usually affects direction. Decisions like this also impact us all provincially as well. When we reduce the number of venues that can support high level competition, including the hosting of major events, we not only make it harder for BC athletes to train and compete close to home, but we limit the number of national and international events we can host in BC. BC has a long history of attracting world class competitions in many sports, and that brings economic and social benefits to non-participants too.

They should redevelop a new pool not down size an old one... how silly!
