Why spend money to change a swimming pool that proved itself to be beneficial to community. Kits was renovated last year. It used to be filled with ocean water, now it is chlorine water?!

New Westminster please regard this decision as an investment in our future, and in the future health of younger generations to come. Investing the financial resources in to a competitive pool will have positive results well into the future. Please ensure that the new pool design supports the ability to host swim teams AND is built to a standard that permits local, regional, provincial and national swim meets.

As a swimmer from a small town who represented Canada on the international stage for 10 years (2012 Olympic Bronze and 2007 World Champion), I can say that would not have been possible and my life would have been totally different if I didnt have access to a proper aquatic centre. My wife and I recently moved here and New Westminster is home to the largest swim program in BC outside of Vancouver with members coming from all over the tri-city area. Due to the limited space, they sometimes train in Coquitlam which squeezes out those teams from acccess to the space which hurts a lot of families. We need a pool that will meet the demands of space. We need more kids getting involved in sport, especially in one that is a life saving skill. The current proposal just doesnt meet the needs. I understand the budget has a huge constraint on what can be built, but I would love the opportunity to lend my voice to the city to see if we can get more funding to build what this city and it's residents need.

It's a shame that Kamloops and Victoria have nice facilities to host major swim meets whereas the lower main land has only the UBC pool.

UBC is holding an Intl meet (Mel Zajac) and is sold out and some people cannot get in to watch this competiton. City councillors need to be more aware of the interest and populatity of competitive swimming when they make their decision to build new inadequate facilities.

BC no longer has an aquatic facility that can host international competitions - not even Saanich's Commonwealth Pool meets the new FINA requirements - and we see City Councils after City Councils voting to replace aging facilities that were capable of hosting Provincial & National competitions with new facilities that focus moreso on recreational activities and less so on competitive activities - they aren't designed to host even these smaller meets. There should be some foresight from members of City Council to add those extra lanes and deck space to allow for these major competitions that in turn will pump much needed revenue into your city's coffers. B.C. was once a powerhouse in Canadian swimming challenging Ontario for that title but a number of new 'competitive friendly' aquatic facilities built in that province over the last decade have tilted the balance back to Ontario for Canadian swimming dominance.

Double the housing and reducing the size of our pool doesn’t make sense. Put the lazy river at a rebuild of Hume pool. Canada Games was build to promote sport and fitness. Let’s keep that in mind.

I was Born and raised in new west. I was a high performance athlete and always appreciated the opportunity to compete in professional arenas. High performance sport kept me focused as a student and out of trouble. I hope that the new facility will continue to cater to and inspire young people to compete and achieve in sport.

Aquatics, including competitive aquatics, is just as important as any other sport. We should be encouraging our communities to get active and stay active. Competitive swimming is a high results, low impact sport you can do for your whole life all year round.
