Cow Pen Slough was never designed nor intended to handle drainage from developed areas. It was built only to handle drainage for agricultural areas. No further development or building permits should be allowed until studies are completed and an effective solution is agreed upon.

Siesta Key has experienced die off of oysters along our canal walls since the 1 1/2 years red tide and subsequent raw sewage spills. We’re still looking for a resurgence of oysters along our canal walls. The canal waters haven’t been clean and clear looking for over a year and the oysters don’t seem to be making a comeback.

My commercial building on Apex Rd, Sarasota, FL was built in 1990.
It never flooded.
Monday morning, August 5 outside security camera showed water in parking lot. We thought that was the extent of the water from the storm. Tuesday morning, August 6 security camera showed at least eight inches of water ( entire building flooded ).
