It's a travesty to think Sarasota County Commission is even considering this project on land so ill suited to handle this level of housing. What happened to the voter approved 2050 Plan? Where are people in this part of the populated city supposed to find accessible recreational green space? Where is wildlife habitat? WAKE UP!

This particular developer has a terrible record when it comes to flood impacts on neighboring areas ... and they're starting with a low-level floodplain. We should be cutting back on development until the full impacts of heavy rain events is known, not racing ahead with "damn-the-torpedoes" speed.

As a seventeen-year resident of Manatee and Sarasota counties, I have observed increased flooding from even normal summer storms. I believe land over-development to be a primary cause to this growing problem.

The amount of development in this county without additional improvements to the drainage infrastructure is going to cause 100 year floods to become common occurrences. Much more effort needs to be made to maintain the water drainage of Sarasota county to ensure these very pricey homes are not constantly threatened by heavy rain events.
