Building that new development would DEVASTATE areas that already had massive flooding with the already new developments with in the last 2 years. It needs to be stopped until the county commissioiners & family take their hands out of the cookie jar of making money and getting kickbacks from the developers. It needs to be stopped and cut into half as so they can figure out how to control flooding.

I live in the Laurel Lakes subdivision, literally across the road from the now devastated Laurel Meadows. The homes in our community came within mere feet of experoencing the same devastation. Floodwaters cut off access to/from our community for 3-1/2 days. Our flood zone rating shows us as having virtually no chance of a flood, yet Debby showed conclusively that the flood zone ratings are seriously out of date. Development East of I-75 must be paused until a proper study is conducted.

Charge the developer a hefty fee on each unit built and each acre that is cleared. The developers are making millions while the rest of are paying for the aftermath left behind. Don’t issue any new building permits until infrastructure is in place. Where is the water going to come from? Where is the sewer going to go? Who is going to pay for all the new police, fire and EMT? Who is going to pay for the new housing and equipment they will need? Who is going to pay for all the new roads needed?

Back in 2003 we had 21 inches of rain in 24 hours. One house in Laurel Meadows was flooded from that. All the roads were under water and my house wasn't finished yet, but was like an island with water almost completely surrounding it.

Let’s see. Traffic is at a standstill every day and I75. Thousands of homes that have never flooded in the 20-40 Years since they have been built are now being flooded with each new storm so let’s build Atlantic new development on the only floodplain left in the county. This is the kind of brilliant leadership we get from the Sarasota county commission who just rubberstamp anyone who walks in the building with a lawyer and $1000 suit.

Neighborhoods flooded, streets impassable , Siesta Key Beach (#1!) closed to swimming because of fecal bacteria, antiquated water treatment systems, tens of thousands! living areas being built. Where are my tax dollars going?!!!…for golf courses in State Parks? 2050 plan is a cruel JOKE!

Can't replace land with concrete and buildings and think it will not flood or the surrounding area. Also 75 can not handle any more traffic especially another estimated 10,000 cars and 6500 homes look at 75 at 3:45 north Sarasota/ Bradenton. It's a slow crawl! Come one slow down the builds!

We need to stop the growth East of 75, all that water flows West. The streams and catch basins need to be maintained to avoid flooding in the Palmer Rznch area, as well as Phillipe Creek area.⁷

The continued regressive suburbanization of this state and county obviously undermines the health of our watersheds, our ability to live within them, and the ecotourism upon which our economy depends. A changing climate only adds to those challenges. It’s sad we need yet another study to show this.
But if that’s what it takes to hold accountable those whose personal greed exceeds our community’s need, then let’s see it. Refocus new development at existing centers and corridors where our community well-being can be improved rather than diminished.
