LGBTQ orgs have largely forgotten the rights and protections of the LGB. It's a sad state of affairs, and I'm concerned for LGB youth.

Solidarity from a lesbian in the US. Stonewall, set an example for organizations around the world that purport to represent LGBT by taking the concerns of lesbians and gay men, and all women, seriously.

Lesbians are homosexual females.

The petition is long overdue. Stonewall has been slowly erasing the 'L' that it used to stand so proudly behind. Today, it wants to place it back in the closet where no one else can even see it. #FollowTheMoney

I am extremely concerned about self ID and the potential negative impact it could have on women and girls who were born female. Predatory and perverted males are likely to take advantage of self ID. Stripping away the dignity and privacy of women and girls is not acceptable in my eyes.

Biological sex and gender identity are 2 separate things. Women's rights and safety are being undermined.

Stonewall hates lesbians and is the worst. Does not represent or most lesbian, gay and bisexual people.

I have been an out lesbian and a feminist since the 1970's. Invoking the name "Stonewall" was a rallying call to gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and trans folk. It isn't that in the UK now. Discussions and debates need to be had. There are complex issues and conflicting interests to be understood, thrashed-out and reconciled. Stonewall should be a major force in that process. It isn't. As a womyn, a lesbian and a feminist Stonewall should have my back. It doesn't. Stonewall needs to review its policies/stance in regard to self ID, transing of minor children, safe-guarding of womyn and girls and womyn only spaces. Trans folk have the same rights to a life of dignity and respect, free from discrimination. But their rights don't trump anyone else's. That is the challenge for Stonewall in the UK. Speak for all of LGBT+ or change your name.

Human Rights must respect the need of everyone and not undermine the needs of others without prior consultation.

I don't hold out much hope that Stonewall will listen. We need an organisation that will tell young lesbians that they are OK, like Stonewall used to do.

I’m bereft at the thought of unwinding years of good work. I’ve actively supported trans folks in a number of ways. I can’t believe Stonewall are totally ignoring the reality of violence against women and children is still at obscene levels and they are ignoring the fact self ID will be an abusers charter. Attitude towards biological women is appalling

Trans people deserve love, respect and dignity, and that doesn’t mean denying science or eroding women’s right has to be written into law. And even if it did it’s OK to discuss that publicly.

I've been a loud trans-advocate for over 20 years but the past few years of silencing, bullying, verbal & physical threats, and astonishing female-erasure by TRAs has pushed me firmly over to the critical side for good. Self-ID and blanket-affirmation are disasters-in-waiting and will ultimately HURT genuine trans people in the long run, when the backlash really kicks in. Time to change your strategy Stonewall!

Please consider the safety of women and girls regarding self ID. Stop vilifying those with genuine concerns about this issue and remember you original purpose, to serve the needs of the gay and lesbian community.

I think it is so important to engage in respectful debate about the balance of rights. I am especially concerned about the potential for abuse of self id and its impact on the rights of women. I am also concerned about the impact on kids of reinforcing outdated gender norms and stereotypes. Let kids be kids and let them make life altering choices when they have the maturity and experience to understand.

It is deeply disturbing when an organisation founded to fight bigotry and failure to value diversity, is now itself seeking to impose its ownmonolithic definition on others. Debate is healthy, it enables issues to be raised and uncomfortable truths to be uncovered and considered.
