Having been given relevant information by the defendant's solicitor as to the person's inability to hear either the legal proceedings and in particular the complainant and being aware of Article 40.1 of the Irish Constitution, the judge should have put the case back until a suitable interpreter was available. I am surprised that the defendant's solicitor did not demand that Judge Paul Kelly recuse himself from judging the case for not adhering to the Constitutional provision..

I wear a hearing aid but don't have sign.
It's a disability not seen
We (all hearing impaired people have the right to a fair HEARING
in Court).

Deaf people should have equal access to information as their hearing contemporaries. This means ISL recognition and equal status.

Totally support the Deaf man to appeal the wrongful court decision by not providing interpreter. There law clearly states must have interpreter in court.

Absolutely appalling to see from judge Paul Kelly giving no consideration for a deaf man who needs an Irish sign language interpreter for him to understand proceedings clearly. With what has happened, Paul Kelly's actions must be called up upon and in future in court, the deaf person must have equal rights and request an interpreter without any trouble or attempt of not providing for them.
