Deaf People's right to Irish Sign Language Access in the Judicial System.

Thw legal services should provide Deaf person an access to interpreter at the court so he will know what everything is being said and enables him to say he want. DEAF stands for Deaf, Equality, Access and Freedom of Choices thanks

All defendants have the right to understand the charges and procedures against them, this would be upheld in the case of any spoken language and is no different in the case of Irish Sign Language. Interpreter provision is a basic right and responsibility of the courts for the protection of the legal process and not just the Deaf person.

That's not right. Everyone deserves a fair trial and not being able to hear hinders that greatly.

An Irish citizen is an Irish citizen, deaf, blind or otherwise! What is the problem? Equality is the measure of a nation!

Completely unacceptable. He did not get what he should have been fully entitled to get heard at the court. I was appalled to learn the shocking news. There should be a re-trial with full provision of the interpreting service.

Unbelievable shock this has happen in 2016 need isl recognised and teached as a language in the schools

Absolute disgrace that this has happened and this Deaf man's rights were taken away from him. No matter if the person is innocent or guilty everyone is entitled to a fair and just trial, everyone is entitled to be treated as an equal citizen and have their rights observed.

We the Deaf community have our full access rights and equal rights to the services in Ireland. Please recognise our first language is ISL Irish Sign Language for all Ireland

Every deaf person need interpreters, that is not fair on deaf without Irish sign language. It's deaf Frist language! Respect deaf, I'm so upset to see justice! That is selfish

I know this Man very well I was so disgusted when I heard about this on the news l notice no one from home town has signed the petiton are they afraid of the truth and what kind of gods name is the dungloe people thinking as he has lived in dungloe since he was child I think the dungloe people should get behind or maybe you are all scared of the truth when it comes out as the so called Garda have not there jobs is because he is an easy target to get points so dungloe this is 2016 not ninetycantes

Each and every person has the same rights and equality as everyone else as stated in the constitution, so this deaf person, what ever wrong he has done, he should be entitled to an interpreter in order to get the full access in the court of law.

I am deaf & support deafs people all around too. Im very annoyed & disgraceful! Its very important to have have interrupter in juictice court!! Its very shame & upsetting!! Irish sign language NEED!!!
