Deaf People's right to Irish Sign Language Access in the Judicial System.

Equal rights for all citizen living in Ireland especially for the disabilities..

Whatever the rights or wrongs of what this deaf man is alleged to have done, he was discriminated against by the Judge in not having an interpreter present in court to assist him. If there was no interpreter present on the day of the hearing, it should have adjourned until one became available to assist this man AT ALL TIMES.

Right to have Irish sign language access for deaf people and advocate for deaf people in Ireland regardless in any cases.

I am angry that Judge Paul Keity District Court in Letterkeny ignore One deaf no interpreter

Deaf people have RIGHTS for access with interpreters at the court. EQUALITY

Also, UN Convention on people with disablities recognizes sign language as the right of communication access in public institutions for every deaf EU citizen. The judge is dead wrong!

Disappointed to see that Justice still not recognised the ISL interpreter that Deaf man need to have his side of story.

That is utterly most unfair to the Deaf man.

I feel felt think that the judge are wrong to asked a woman talked against unless the interpeter there for deaf man then ready to do explain to the judge what happen.

Come on where equal right for deaf people specially in court. Must provide language support. Keep on fighting till deaf person in court had interpreter

Every human being has a right to a fair trial in his/her own language... The law is supposed to protect people so this breaks my heart.

Everybody should be equal before the law. There is an obligation on the criminal courts to provide interpretation (not so for the civil courts, but they often do as a matter of courtesy, e.g., in RTAs the insurance companies or even the court itself will pay for an interpreter). Also, there is precedent for court cases not going ahead for lack of interpretation. I would strongly advise this man to appeal and to even seek compensation for discrimination. This is a terrible statement of where Deaf people's rights are in 2016. If an Irish person were abroad on charges, had no interpretation during a trial/hearing and therefore no knowledge of what was being said, it would be headline news! Shame on the legal people who stood by and let this happen. Shame!
