Deaf People's right to Irish Sign Language Access in the Judicial System.

Not fair No interpreter for deaf

Must have interpreter provide for the court. Judge law know very well .

We all deaf people have humans rights and need a fully ACCESS 100% Irish Sign Language and always provide interpreter as we need it ALL THE TIMES to keep our communications smoothly and fully understand what is going on!!!!

Every Deaf people need interpreter don't know could judge do that to him! Absolutely Disgraceful!

It's a total disgrace and that's why we need Irish Sign Language to be RECOGNISE by the Irish government.

Accessibility for interpreters are very highly important for every Deaf persons and their rights. I give my 100% support. Please remember where are our citizenship rights?

Everybody is entitled to a fair trial. That dictates both sides be heard . This is not the case. 100% access for everyone!

You are taking your language, English , for granted. We do not! WE need it to be recognised as if our language is not recognised, then our citizenship is not recognised even thou I am born and reared in Ireland!!!!!!!

I fully support the Desf man who was not treated as a hearing person as there was no interpreter provided for him in the court.. The judge was very vey wrong in what they did to the Deaf man... So I think they should give the Deaf man another chance and listen to his side with an Interpeter present.... The court system is a joke!!! Disgraceful!! Feel so sorry for the Desf man.. He deserves another chance!!!!

I am angry as a deaf person that deaf people do not share the same access to information as the general public. To outlaw a deaf person from their native county without an interpreter present is wrong on so many levels. This deaf person has the right to defend themselves and speak for themselves. I do not understand how Judge Kelly allowed the trial proceed without an interpreter present. If a foreign citizen was brought to court before a judge they would receive a language interpreter from the point of giving a statement in a Garda station right through to the point of going to trial, so tell me this, why was this deaf person not giving 100% access to information in their FIRST language?! Irish Sign Language needs to be recognised as a language in Ireland. Interpreters should be provided where needed. This is a basic human need! Judge Kelly should be ashamed of himself for letting the trial proceed without an interpreter present. The defendant could not defend himself, how is this a fair trial? Deaf people have been brought to trial without an interpreter present in the past. This concerns me because if I was to have a deaf child and they were brought to trial for some reason without an interpreter present to defend themselves, they could be wrongfully convicted?!

Agreed. Where is access & ISL for Deaf People?? What if u only live in your own home and be move out of your county. Where is yr home & how do u feel??

In spite of a lack of provision of sufficient access afforded to the Deaf defendant, I am of the opinion that the decision made by Judge Paul Kelly to continue court proceedings nevertheless was profoundly regressive. As a Deaf person myself, his decision to do so raises grave concerns about the precedent he has now set within the Irish court system. I am signing this petition to support the campaign to protect Deaf People's right to access Irish Sign Language in the Judicial system to ensure equality and fairness is provided to all.

It's 2016 and we still face inequality! Seriously like, regardless of persons action where's his right to give evidence? Only one sided was given at the court.
