Deaf People's right to Irish Sign Language Access in the Judicial System.

Judge should know better. Must have interpreter in court and police station. Surprised there is no other side of story. Very disgusting and disappointed over no interpreter.

2 deaf men were in court this month, both on separate cases and 2 Judges. 2 judges are not similar views, one believes interpreter must provide. I see some newspaper stories about himself but I don't see any his defensive say. All about defendant. Judge should aware and know better because he got pay more than people's annaul salary.

I am disability as profoundly deaf. I have to right deaf and must be right human. No discrimination or ignore.

It is abysmal how in this day and age a prominent member of the judicial system, Judge Paul Kelly, can turn a deaf ear (pardon the pun) to articles of the law and blatantly deny a human being of his right of freedom of speech in his own language. As a deaf community and supporters of equality we stand united against injustice and we demand a fair trial.

Its so disgraceful that they didn't provided interpreter in the first place and for the judge, who didn't hear a deaf person's right and explanations about it. Its important to get ISL interpreter for deaf person's human rights in the court or gardai custody

Supporting our deaf rights for a fair trial ! That means 100% access to interpreters etc !

One side of story where is other side of story due no access ISl Interpreter? Big worry for future to Deaf Community to be equally access to same for everyone else. Must provide 100% access to Deaf community. To be fair to ve retrial. Need a justice to be done.

Disgraceful out of that judge

Judge Paul Kelly could to with a refresher course in Human Rights along with some Deaf awareness training. The shortage of interpreters is a very poor excuse to violate this man's rights to access the proceedings. I don't think 24hours to wait for an ISL interpreter would have made a huge difference to the nature of the case but IT would have made all the difference to this man's Human Rights

I wonder at the Judge's lack of understanding of what he has done. Is he fully aware of the legal implications of denying the defendant his human right to have an interpreter? That it meant the trial was not a fair trial as a result? I am not talking about the facts of the case, I am talking about the trial process being compromised by the breach of human rights here. Setting such a dangerous precedent is extremely worrying.
