Libraries in Washington, DC Plan Cuts in Hours. Budget Shortfall Would Also Close Kiosks. The D.C. public library system is planning a severe cutback in hours including closing all branches on Fridays, because of a $2 million in staff reductions in next year\'s budget. The system may also close five kiosk branches, (Sursum Corda, Deanwood, Langston Terrace, Congress Heights, and on H Street in Northeast) which are located in some of the city\'s most under-served neighborhoods. Cutbacks are set to start as early as October 2008. Don\'t let them take your library away! Fight back!

My kids go to the Deanwood branch every day after school. Where are they supposed to go if this shuts down?? This is a bad idea.

The library is the only place my neighborhood has for computers and quiet time. Leave our hours alone!

closing libraries to save money is just backwards. these places are essential for the community.
