Durham Catholic District School Board - Grade 7-12 model for Pereyma

I am not comfortable with this idea at all.

This is not work it should be how it is been have been 9-12

We disagree with this decision

How can any of you be surprised. The Catholic board like the church does whatever it can get away with. I'm Catholic and disgusted that the "former" pope, made threats to our Prime Minister during the gay marriage process. The Catholic church and all it's talk of "traditional" families, has proven once again, their not your children anymore, they don't care about your thoughts on child rearing or what effect this will have. It's a sad situation when the children in the schools don't come first.

I am not comfortable with my daughter attending high school in grade 7. There is too much exposure and bullying that takes place and is very unacceptable for these little students to be thrown in with young adults.

I am utterly disgusted that this was done in such a sneaky, undermining way. Please Mr. Leahy do not tell me my 11 year old has more in common with a 17/18 year old in grade 12 than a kid in grade 5 or six.. my son is petrified at the thought , the board claims they have the students' good at heart, ahh no! most of the students (especially the year end birthday students) will have some sort of apprehension I'm sure, why were the students not consulted, why were the parents not consulted, I'm taking my tax dollars to the public school, thanks for nothing !!!!

If this goes through, I will have to put my 4 children in the Public Board

High school is NOT a place a for 12 year old children. I will absolutely pull my children from the Catholic board and send them to their local (aka close) age appropriate public elementary school and re-rout out tax dollars to suit.

I have 2 children, 1 is 6 years old in grade 1 and the other is 3 and will be in j next year,I will pull my kids out of Catholic school and put them in public and re - route my taxes to the public school board, this is just outrageous how they could do such a thing.

my son 6 and my daughter is going to start JK next year but if this is going r to happen then I will pull them out now and put them in the public school system. My husband and I should decide my children's education no one else.

Also attended the PTA meeting for John XXIII and Bob (Superintendent) nor the trustees couldn't care less whether the parents have a choice or not, only wanted to hear from the folks that is excited about the move or the "Implementation Phase" as they call it... To be clear we do not have a problem with their 7-12 model experiment - we are glad for those family that benefits and welcomes the program - especially Pereyma H.S. who benefits the most. Our problem is that we do not have a choice, we believe that it is our decision whether our kids go to Pereyma or stay at John XXIII...our kids are being forced out of the elementary school community we have chosen for them and where they have grown up...why? To avoid closing Pereyma, funds are allocated to school boards typically based on the number of students in the board and Pereyma's enrollment has been declining, every year. Empty seats/rooms are costly to the dcdsb and the numbers does not look good in the report, it is up to the school board to determine where the funds will go - the dcdsb have decided that it will invest in Pereyma at the cost of the elementary schools 7/8 students/teachers... Basically, to save a south Oshawa high school and secure funding is to force the grade 7/8 from the surrounding elementary school... To me personally, this plan doesn't sound like a real solution to declining Pereyma enrollment but rather just a juggling act to avoid closing Pereyma and secure/squeeze funding by manipulating and forcing which students go to elementary vs. secondary school - the irony is that some parents will transfer their children in Grade 9 anyways but I guess the board is hoping and wishing that manipulating the parents to stay in Pereyma for Grade 9 because of the "smooth transition" as they call it or since "you already have the uniform" as I like to call it. What if the Grade 9-12 remains in decline in the following years? Well Pereyma is safe since it is guranteed Gr7-8 students...We si

I do not agree with this new system model. Nobody heard about this and this would have been a great topic of discussion when the Election was here. This Board of Trustees needs to be revamped.

The real issue here is even bigger than the idea of 7-12 schools. The problem is that the population at the secondary school level is too small to allow for a variety of courses to run I the senior grades. With a projected high school enrolment of 400 (approximately) the choices with be very limited. If my child attend Pereyma, she will not have access to the opportunities afforded to students at a larger school. It is a question of equity...
