Need for Daniel Boone High School Lacrosse Program
The Daniel Boone School District is currently considering a proposal to create a Daniel Boone High School boys' lacrosse club team, starting in the spring season of 2009. The Amity Athletic Club High School team has been highly successful in the Daniel Boone community. Up until last season, the Amity AC HS team has played the other high school teams in the Berks County League. Unfortunately, the Amity AC HS Club Team will no longer be permitted to play against high school teams. The other high schools in our area have high school lacrosse teams and starting this school year, have become part of the PIAA. This change basically dismantles the Amity Athletic Club High School team. High schools that participate in PIAA will not be permitted to play another team unless it is a high school team. In short, what this means is that unless the Daniel Boone School District creates a high school lacrosse program, the Daniel Boone community will have no viable lacrosse option for our student athletes. This penalizes both the current members of the Amity AC High School Lacrosse team, as well as younger students who desire to play high school lacrosse. Organized and supervised high school athletics are an important part of the high school community. Moreover, high school lacrosse offers many college scholarship opportunities to accomplished student athletes. If the Daniel Boone School District does not create a high school club lacrosse team, students will essentially be shut out of the opportunity for these scholarships because they will not be permitted to play other high schools. There is an urgent need to start the Daniel Boone High School boys' lacrosse team now. My signature on this petition signifies my strong support for the creation of the Daniel Boone High School club lacrosse team, starting in Spring 2009.
