The city announced today that they are finally pulling down the red light cameras. I honestly never imagined we would get here but you all proved that simple persistence is enough to change local policy. Let's keep paying attention to the intersections just to make sure things stay fair for …

This is a Petition to get the City of Davenport to take down all of the red light traffic cameras. The city says these cameras are put up for safety and to help save lives by stopping people from running red lights. These cameras do not take in consideration of traffic or weather conditions, many times running a red light is unavoidable due to these conditions. Also a recent study by the Urban Transit Institute by North Carolina A-T University shows a TEN percent increase in rear-end crashes at red light camera locations. This study also estimates that if all other factors (weather and traffic) were at a constant there would be a 43 percent decrease in traffic accidents at an intersection if the red light cameras were no longer there. Red light cameras are not in place for our safety, if anything they cause more accidents then they would ever prevent.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people have reached out to share their own frustrating experiences with these cameras. It is clear that I am not the only one who feels this way and the credit for this momentum belongs entirely to the community for stepping up.

I am honestly stunned by how many of you have joined this effort to challenge these cameras. This momentum belongs entirely to you because I never thought we would see this kind of response so quickly.

Ridiculous cash grab. Almost got rear ended at the Kimberly intersection because the person in front of me slammed on their brakes to avoid a ticket. Take them down.
