Donnington Against Sandtrend Homes

It seems so unnecessary for yet more wildlife space to be lost to residential development north of Newbury. The surprise destruction last year of so many young trees, hundreds, could be a prelude of what will follow if this opportunistic proposal is permitted. Trees can be replanted, but once developed the land itself and the wildlife it supports will be lost forever. In a few short generations' time, with technology that isn't even dreamed of yet, our children's children and their children will ask why so much virgin land, and historical land at that, was allowed to be lost in the 21st century. Surely time and resources should be focussed on building houses on land for which consent already exists, not giving consent for yet another large green and unspoiled area to be lost forever? Death by a thousand cuts, each one almost unremarked. Let's not let it happen yet again.

A totally inappropriate development proposal

Outrageous to even think about building here.

I don’t agree with building on beautiful farm land when there is enough space in towns/cities to develop.

This land was rural countryside before being bulldozed by Sandtrend. It is used by many walkers and dog owners, providing immediate access from the village to nature. It is beyond the settlement boundary of the Parish; is an historic Civil War battlefield site; is not to be considered for development before 2026 in the current West Berks Plan; is a water course for flooding, as in 2007; is opposed for development by parishioners in the last Parish Poll; is difficult and dangerous for access as the already busy road is narrow, steep and has poor sight lines. If developed, it will mean more traffic and more queueing. It has a covenant restricting use only for agriculture. The proposals are opportunistic and with no community benefit. They come on the back of the approved North Newbury development which is currently for 401 houses but rumoured to be having that scope greatly increased.

This field is potentially a vital flood defence for Donnington Village and beyond. Building 100 homes on this field compounds the flood risk for the many households in Donnington Village and beyond.
