Have just found out about this (28 July) Mirror concerns above. Especially fearful of being trapped when causeway is flooded..unable to go to work, no emergency vehicles could access ( power lines come down regularly in this area, ambulances couldn't get through) people will be tempted to drive over flooded causeway. As well as friday hut rd, possum creek road ( alternate route ) is also highly hazardous with sharp jagged edges, more than one foot drop in places, speeding drivers in morning, and tourist traffic that is ( understandably) reluctant to do their share of moving off the edge to pass. Definitely needs to be an alternative access onto Lismore road for Friday hut road, pine mtn road etc residents who would otherwise be stranded between railway bridge and flooded causeway, AND need to make roadways safe.

Possum Creek Road is barely one lane wide as it is now with the shoulders on both sides of the road washed away. To increase the traffic load will be dangerous.

Please consider opening Dudgeons Lane as Possom Creek Road is dangerous and not in a fit state to take a significant increase in traffic

Our roads have deteriorated dangerously in the past years and will not handle this extra diverted traffic

All access roads to the railway bridge are dangerous and in need of repair- to divert traffic, including school buses,along these roads without fixing the access roads first is not good planning.

We have no way of getting out when Possum Creek floods if we don’t have the Binna Burra way. We need to maintain a way out that way.

Thank you, Danielle, for organising this petition. Friday Hut Road and Possum Creek Road have been in poor and unsafe condition for far too long. These roads are not just in need of repair—they require a full upgrade to meet the demands of current traffic and ensure the safety of all road users. With increasing traffic, especially along Possum Creek Road, the risks are escalating: more near misses, more vehicle damage, and a growing concern that it’s only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs. I fully support this petition and urge the Council to take action. Our community deserves safe and reliable roads.

Please keep our roads safe for us to drive our kids to and from school

Road safety is pretty well ignored in this area of road. The closure of the railway bridge at the Buttery needs to be properly assessed for the implications & fixed promptly.

The bridge is in good condition and not a burden. A vital link to Lismore and an alternate route in the event of fire.

There has been numerous occasions I’ve been forced off or had near head collision on Possum Ck Rd blind corners and theres NO shoulders to find safe space. Going off the sealed surface means going into VERY precarious situations. I’ve lived here since Jan 1989 it’s far worse and risks have increased dramatically now at an increased rate. High vehicles eg school buses n’ trucks cannot move far from centre due to overhang camphor laurel or risk damage to roof. Pot holes are filled, don’t last, same holes reappear and develop bigger eg. hole presently where Possum Ck bridge meets west side. It’s now forcing drivers to straddle it wrong side of road, most of the roads one way width today. Nothing new. This old putty road was never designed to carry traffic it does today, it’s dangerous as is and getting worse. Outer edges are fragmenting to the point it’s really a width of one way. To load Possum Ck with more traffic would be irresponsible act for any length of period. Possum Ck Rd was replaced some years ago, understood State paid. The old one collapsed due to failure of foundations. It occurred not long after school bus times.. I recall councils assets manager saying council would have to spend $50,000,000 for hinterland roads to meet standards. Nothings improved locally, it’s worse, sadly.
