Dangerous Parking Outside Churchtown Primary School

I am well aware of the dangers around school parking and jow aware many drivers are of their surroundings when they drop their children off. The best solution is a scheme where parents are encouraged to walk to school with their children instead of driving. All sorts of advantages to doing so, not least healthy children (and parents)!

As a resident of St.Cuthberts Rd I have seen several cases of children nearly hit by cars
As a recently new resident of sunny road I’m shocked at the attitude of a lot of parents in terms of their driving and parking which is both arrogant and in some cases shocking and just plain dangerous. Some parents ignore double yellow lines/drop off area and then park also wherever they can ever blocking residents drives where these are clearly marked to keep clear or at my end where they are not permitted to park without a permit. I have been personally abused / ignores when I have challenged parents in the past on this. I support any moves to make the situation better but this also needs better enforcement by Traffic officers/Police.

I agree, It would be a shame if the whole road has to be double yellowed, or parking restriction times enforced, but maybe that's the only way.

Thanks for your comment Lyndsey. Unfortunately the staff don't have the resources to patrol outside the School. This has also been tried in the past but Teachers have been hailed with some outrageous abuse from some of the offenders. I strongly believe the responsibility lies with us as parents, by that I mean choosing where we park. It's these people I'm trying to get through to, failing that we will have to look to the council for support. Maybe railings down the whole street will help. As for keeping the disabled bays free, only a civil enforcement officer has the power to move someone parked in them, teachers can try but if they don't move, there's nothing they can do :( I personally have a conscience and would not park there.

every day not only at Churchtown Primary but at other schools in the Churchtown/Marshside area It not only affects St Cuthberts Rd/Sunny road but the area in general,we have people parking on pavements, driving on Pavements and on Preston New Rd driving along pavements I would just like to add The Hesketh Arms doesn't help letting its customers Park and block pavements and access to pavements.I also find that the school parkers are mainly women

Both my son and daughter attend Churchtown Primary School and I too have been concerned for their safety on many occasions due to other parents pulling up onto kerbsides right next to their feet as they walk the short distance from wherever we park. Parents performing dangerous manoeuvres right outside the school gates in the 'Residents Only' parking area, also where one of the school's Disabled Parking Bay's is situated that I use for my son, is so very dangerous to other children and parents at both busy times of the day. Something desperately needs to be done before anything terrible happens. Also, persistent misuse of both of the school's clearly marked Disabled Bay's (there are only 2, at different enterances) needs to be dealt with as it is an ongoing problem and causes so much unnecessary stress to those that actually need to, and are entitled to use these bays. People with no Blue Badges or Parking Permits are forever misusing the bays - somebody needs to be on duty etch and every morning and afternoon to ensure this does not go on. Thank you. Hoping something good will come of this petition.

Parents stop their cars in the middle of the road outside the St Cuthberts road enteance. They then let their children out there and wait until they are in school before moving away. Not only bone idle but exceptionally stupid as well.

I live on Sunny Rd, and when I try to get out the morning the cars seem to think sunny rd is one way and stay in the middle of the rd?? And also they seem its ok to park over the H outside drives, one side should be a least double yellows
