I think the dance education addition would be a great asset to the school and help enhance and better the orchesis program and make the poms program more successful as long as you have a qualified dance instructor teaching the children. I own a technical dance academy and would be happy to help get this program in place.

Dance should be offered as a PE alternative (at a minimum). With a student body as large as HHS is, there would be enough interest to offer in the curriculum.

I believe that dance education/curriculum is an important part of the High School experience. It is a nice alternative if you are unable to make a team through tryouts. With as many children in the Huntley area trying to earn spots on teams, this would be a great addition for those who want to be a part of something.

This is a worthwhile alternative to team sports that should be adopted.

As an orchesis alumni I understand the value dance education could bring to HHS. Orchesis was the highlight of my time in high school and I can only hope others can experience the joy orchesis brought me

THIS IS A MUST if Huntley hopes to be comparable to surrounding districts like Barrington and Palatine!

I 100% agree with this idea. Huntley High School needs a dance room and curriculum because it will benefit the students a lot. On my freshman year at HHS I wanted to start a dance club. I had a petition going and all the students agreed to it and signed it. The next year I had my own dance club going and performed twice. My junior year, Leslie Parrin, started working as a teacher, and we put my dancers with her idea, Orchesis, together and that was one of the best things I ever did. Leslie Parrin took my dance club to another level and made it her's. Because of her we got to learn about ourselves, time management, leadership, and responsibility. If this gets granted, I know 100%, that you won't be disappointed. Because she is a great teacher with great intentions. As an alumni of HHS and Orchesis I know the high school will benefit from this idea.

I think it would be great to have a dance class in place of pe. I do not dance but my mom owns a studio I see how much dance means to these kids and I think it would be great if this went through for them.

As a former dance instructor and dancer for over three quarters of my life, I strongly support dance as not only a fine and performing art, but as an alternative to fitness within a school's curriculum. Leslie Parrin is a fantastic dance instructor, mentor and educator. She currently provides children within the district and Huntley High School a level of knowledge that cannot be matched. As a teen, I was a student who took dance as part of my curriculum at school and I greatly benefited from this experience. I also had the body and mind to prove it. (Come on, abs and squats for days... not to mention counting/musicality and retaining choreography!) Please reconsider your future building renovations and curriculum to include dance.

As a person that never was interested in participating in basketball or weight lifting, I would have LOVED to have the option to dance for gym. It's very good cardio, increases flexibility and gets the non-athletic kids like me to join in instead of sitting on the side.
