The high school that I went to offered dance as a physical education class. I took four semesters of dance in high school as an alternative to a traditional gym class and loved it. As a varsity athlete, I was exempted from taking PE, but I always chose to take dance anyways. I think dance courses would appeal to many students in our district.

More people need to be introduced to Dance earlier, it would really build some confidence needed in young students like these.

Good thing for students to have the option to include dance as a choice of exercise and self esteem, confidence ect... Huntley High School needs to have as many oppourtunites for our students as possbile.

Dance is both fine arts and athletic. It is used as training in many sports, besides being an art unto itself. It definitely belongs as part of the curriculum at HHS.

Love this because I'm a student at Huntley people would be wise to put this through. I am not athletic and this is actually something I would participate in I'm sorry but our physical education program is terrible.

I went to high school in dist 211 and graduated in 1981. That building had a dance room built prior to my even entering the building. Many districts throughout our area have this in their building and curriculum and have realized its value years ago. I am flabbergasted our school is so behind on these kinds of issues. Our high school students deserve and NEED these tools to enter into the world beyond Huntley!

I have a son majoring in Dance at Columbia College Chicago, and my daugher wants to attend Columbia too to major in Dance. This would be an awesome opportunity for here and other students alike.

As a graduating senior, and an avid participant in theatre, I've always been really frustrated that Huntley always seemed to prioritize sports over fine arts. (ex- getting a new field, & new field house, while the set shop could use an expansion, and the choir room needs a white board) A dance curriculum would be a HUGE step towards getting the fine arts the recognition they deserve.
Dance and the Arts are so important for our youth. Studies have shown kids involved in Dance and the Arts do better in school.

Every student deserves the right and the privilege to be taught dance. I have been teaching dance for the past 18 years in the public school system. Students love the option to earn a Fine Art and PE credit in my class. This opportunity has many positive aspects, such as:

-students with anxiety get an opportunity to be in a supportive intimate environment that they feel comfortable in
-boys that want to dance can do it free from peer pressure because the class is not in an area that all students can view
-students who have taken over 8 years of traditional PE finally have the option to do something different!
- lessening the class load for over staffed PE classes
-providing another option for students to complete fine art credit
- educating students on how to maintain a life time of fitness through an activity that they enjoy to do
-allowing students to express themselves artistically through movement
-supporting the new standards of the common core standards of teaching in the state of Illinois
-creating future artists and supporters of dance. This will happen because Leslie is an educated teacher that is passionate about dance. This recipe of success will create others to follow in her path and give others the gift that was given to her. I know this because Leslie was given opportunities to dance in both high school and professionally; she is ready to pass on the gift that was given to her.

I thouroughly enjoyed the dance PE classes that I took back when I was in high school at John Hersey HS District 214. I believe HHS needs to offer this option for students who may not be as athletically talented as others. Let's have as diverse a PE dept. as other districts are.
