In my opinion Dr Hiranya Peiris was the very best person in the UK to talk about these results on tv, as one of the worlds experts on this topic, i.e. irrespective of gender and ethnicity.

The Daily Mail should publicly apologise for these comments, and also stop in general. A persistent attitude of "Insult them now, get the readers, apologise quietly later" has been present for too long and frankly tighter regulations on unsubstantiated claims and disprovable nonsense.

The Daily Mail 'correction' published on 28 March was partial and grudging. A full apology for truly bad journalism should be made.

I am always amazed that the Mail still exists after WW2. Consistently through the 1930s the Mail supported Mosley and Hitler ("Hurrah for the Blackshirts!" is just the most infamous example). More recently, when they go on about appeasing dictators, we should remember that appeasement has its fault but it is preferable to actively supporting dictators. This attack on our academics is par for the course I suppose.

The Daily Mail should certainly apologise, and it certainly will not. Presumably, the lack of apology and the unwillingness of the paper to engage on the substantive issues in relaiton to UCL's exceptionally qualified academics indicates the true views, values and prejudices of the owner and editor of this horrible publication.

I fully support this, having read the article, I can't believe that the mail would have even let it go to print/online in the first place. No research done and simply poor journalism.
