The 'apology' of 21 March simply adds insult to injury and can only be considered as either vexatious or idiotic.

Two of the world's leading academics and the Daily Mail can't seem to see past their ethnicity, nationality and gender. Absolutely ridiculous in today

Hyrania Peiris is the "real deal" when you are looking for good cosmologists Maggie Adarin Pocock is a vital member of one of the UK's best space-science groups

An apology is essential. This article is just plain wrong on the facts and any self-respecting journalist would feel compelled to issue a correction, and, in this case, an apology.

This incident reminds us how assiduously society polices gender stereotypes. For ideas on how to challenge this in early education check out the excellent www.teachers.org.uk/files/stereotypes-stop.pdf

I know Hiranya Peiris as an exceptional scientist and an engaged teacher. She is also a brilliant communicator. Who better to invite to 'Newsnight'? UCL is one of the best universities in the world. I wonder how many people would be left if we only had white males on campus?

Yes, I fully accept that the Daily Mail could just have been trolling us all.
