It is appalling that such an attitude still exists in the mainstream media in this day and age, belittling the work of two such highly regarded scientists - and of the many non-white and female scientists involved in the BICEP2 research group. This should never have made it past the editor's desk, let alone into print

looking at the Daily Mail's coverage of climate change one is tempted to add that commenting on science with no proper qualifications may be the preserve of white mail newspaper editors
