I can't believe there needs to be a petition for something like this.
This is such an absolute necesseity for our kids, I am surprised our District doesn't realize that.

In order for optimal learning to take place, children's social and physical needs must be met! Recess provides opportunities for children to have social experiences that help them build relationships, learn problem solving skills, and just be kids! Kids need to run and play for them to be ready to learn, especially with all the expectations they have on them during the school day.

Parents please support this. Recess is so important at this young age for the all around development of our children.

This article says it all and there are so many more like this. It's proven that play is the way children learn. In fact, natural curiosity is the way we all learn. To stifle that is to promote children being told what to think not how to think. http://www.familylives.org.uk/advice/toddler-preschool/learning-play/how-children-learn-through-play/

Kids need time outdoors to play and release energy so they are able to sit and concentrate. The lack of recess time in Grayslake is embarrassing and something that makes us consider moving to a different district where they understand that kids need time to play and be kids.

Parent of a child in this district, our children should have the chance to socialize with their peer in a unstructured environment each day. Thank You for pursuing this!

I would love for the schools to cut out SSR and have recess instead, even at GMS. The kids are suppose to sit, read and be quiet everyday, then only have 20 minutes for lunch. Let them have 30 minutes for lunch and 10 minutes to at least walk around the building in the middle of the day. I had recess from K-8, enough with testing for college, let the kids learn how to be kids, let them breath!

Out kids need time to run around and be kids! While I certainly understand the importance of academic time I also fully support the idea of developing the whole child. They need time to socialize and interact with one another in an unstructured environment such as recess to develop problem solving and social skills.

I am upset to learn this! We grew up with recess 3x/day: am, lunch, pm. This is necessary! Not surprised if this is part of why more kids are diagnosed with add, they need that time to expend physical energy! Also contributes to childhood obesity -ivemwnt throughout the day keeps metabolism up!

Completely agree. The children need more time to release their energy, and an opportunity to refresh so that when they come back to learn it can be more productive.

The workforce of the future will be expected to create things and solve problems that don't even exist today. When we restrict childhood playtime, we limit possibilities. Play is where creativity and problem solving begins.

Recess and PE should be daily. Children learn better if they are given time to burn off energy. Even most adults take breaks at work to help them remain focused and not restless.

We moved to Grayslake about 2 years ago & I was shocked to learn there was no daily recess. The district we came from (Richmond, IL) offered 2 recesses daily and PE 2-3 times per week. D46 needs to start educating the whole child which includes daily recess. Kids need unstructured play time in their day; it helps with overall socialization & focus while in class.

Recess and PE should be DAILY activities, let's make them priorities, not treats!
