I say, "YES, absolutely!" Athletics is as important as academic subjects. If it wasn't, why would PE be part of the required curriculum? Exercise is extremely important to living a healthy lifestyle, especially now in our increasingly obese society. Participation in sports fosters the lifelong love for exercise and the desire to stay fit and live a long, active healthy life. The students already have plenty of choices for foreign language, science and music.

The value of participating in athletics is undeniable. Work ethic, discipline, team work, sacrifice, self-confidence, humility, encouragement of others, handling disappointment, pride, integrity, communication skills, social skills.........these are just some of the valuable life skills that cannot be learned from a textbook or in a classroom. They must be experienced hands on and lived. Participation in athletics gives kids that experience.

Athletics are vital to school success for many students. It is short-sighted to try to balance a budget on sports and fine arts. We want to create successful, well-rounded citizens. Healthy participation in sports and fine arts starting when children are young and continuing through high school can help establish healthy habits that carry on through adulthood. With our national concern for healthy choices, why not invest in our youth now?

Athletics is underrated. It's one of the best ways to teach our youth about themselves, others and life.any lessons are learned during athletics.

Our children rely upon us to create the positive environment for their growth and success. It is time for the Board to recommit to full athletic program funding.
