I am completely opposed to R1 single family re-zoning in Culver City. If you want affordable housing in Culver City you need another concept.

Meeting last night was a real eye opener. Hours of questions and passionate comments from residents and little helpful response from many council members. Few questions answered. Vast majority of speakers were against eliminating R1, but several council member (one aggressively) didn't seem to care. A sad public display. The next council election can't get here soon enough. What a mess.

I oppose eliminating R1 zones. There are many other ways to create affordable housing. Heavily consider the will of the residents. People should vote on issues like this, it is too important to rush.

I oppose ending R1 Zoning. Preserve our participatory process and representative solutions to planning. Effective plans for housing needs take time and should reflect current home owners needs, aspirations and preferences. Take time and assess the effect of the shift from R1 to R1 with ADR units, and first consider higher density near public transit and above under utilized commercial properties. Create affordability by loans and grants to residents, such as first time buyer programs, teacher housing subsidies or senior housing projects. Preserve trees, green/open space and quality schools, don't create heavier traffic, parking problems and over development. The diverse residents of Culver City worked long and hard to build quality places to live and thrive. Don't leap to "simple solutions" and undo the existing desirable neighborhoods.

On the Council's web call last night it is evident that this council is inadequately looking at a very complex problem in simplistic solutions. They do not understand what homeowners have put into their homes and neighborhoods in order to have some peace as they age. Because of the latest zoning changes I already have people staring into my backyard from their 2/3 story buildings called homes. This is how they will continue until they feel like they've solved their perceived problems. Culver City cannot fix the problems of the city planners from years ago in one massive change to existing homeowners instead of looking at commercial land that lays dormant and under utilized. My advice to Culver City is to think outside the easy and lazy way of solving this problem and quit putting it on the hard working citizens to solve their desire for Federal Funding at any cost.

This city has been noted for its family field. And it’s green space. Environmentally I am not sure that the city can handle the infrastructure that would allow for our for zoning everywhere. Please keep our family safe, our community healthy,and eliminate any changes to R1 universal zoning.
Any future zoning changes should show evidence of how eliminating our one R1 zoning increases available affordable housing. Adequate notice must be provided to all residents and most importantly any studies on calculations on the impact of the city’s infrastructure for zoning changes including sewer water and electricity and be clearly demonstrated and transparent to the community.

keep single family homes the way it is in carlson park.. or else it will be the demise of our city.. sadly to say. But we can for sure with effort and efficiency find other alternatives to help those less fortunate.

I worry that, like the City Council did downtown, they will use eminent domain to transfer property from owners to deep pocketed developers.

I am a 57 year resident of CC. I am just learning of this issue and am not in favor of the elimination of R-1 zoning in CC. I am a home owner for 30 years.

Culver City is already become unlivable with all the construction and high rents. As a renter this concerns me. If the zoning meant affordable houses I would be for it, but I think this is just a boon for the developers.
