If you are unable to find the budget to provide free counseling services when your students are paying 8/k a semester, something is wrong.

Service for students from an University counseling center is different service made available to students from an organization outside university campus. Please reconsider the decision.

Access to mental health care is vital to so many student who would otherwise be unable to receive care. The loss of the CSUCC to an outside organization would not just be damaging to the campus community and the other organizations it works with, but to these students who will never receive care because of inability to pay. CSU, this is the wrong choice.

The counseling center has helped me tremendously during the pandemic. When I made the decision to go therapy, I didn't expect to get as much out of it as I did. If you want to truly support students, please don't push this essential service to the wayside.
If I had to make one criticism of CSU, it's that the university fails to build strong relationships between students and the student services on campus. The services are there, and the people that work at them are amazing, but there is a huge disconnect. I'm only now realizing how accessible some services are, like counseling, career services, the food panty, because they don't take the spotlight compared to development or marketing news. Students deserve to understand how accessible the student services are, but to that point, this move feels like a slap in the face.
To truly put students first, put student services first. That means not skimping out and outsourcing crucial services which only further fails the relationship students have with the tools you provide . We are a stronger student body and a stronger institution if you truly, honestly, robustly put students at the center of your mission.

Outsourcing the wellness center is the worst idea possible. They provide so many crucial services to so many students.

I am deeply saddened by the prospect of outsourcing CSU Health & Wellness and Counseling Center Services. In retrospect, as an undergraduate student at CSU, I don't know what I would have done during my major mental breakdown without the FREE and EXCELLENT services at the Counseling Center. Today, as a grad student and teacher at CSU, I see how many of my students struggle with their mental health and also can't imagine telling a student in crisis to go reach out to an outsourced clinic in order to receive the help they desperately need. In addition, the student org I am involved with, URGE, reached out to Counseling Services to help us host an event centered around self-love. Every single participant, including myself, came out of the event appreciating themselves more for their weaknesses and strengths. WE NEED THESE ON-CAMPUS SERVICES!

Taking away the free counseling center is worst than damaging, it’s detrimental to students. I’ve utilized this service multiple times over my last three years here at CSU, and I can confidently say that if I hadn’t used this service, there would have been a “crisis” that staff and faculty at CSU would’ve had to handle. Taking away this service will mean many more “crises” on CSU’s hands, something that is completely unavoidable.

This decision by the administration indicates a frustrating lack of concern for the students. The news letters we frequently receive that claim the university uniquely cares for its students are starting to look like nothing more than empty platitudes.

Absolutely not. Healthcare is almost impossible to get everywhere else. Give the students a break from that and a place where they can feel welcome without the stress of money.

The counseling center is a necessary resource for students. Mental Healthcare is scarce at best and having it readily availible to one of the most at-risk populations for suicide (college students) is necessary to ensure our health. The decision to outsource it will cause immeasurable damage.

As someone who is seeing the impact of this firsthand, I assure everyone that this is a huge mistake for Cleveland State University. Outsourcing of mental health services will significantly impact quality of care as well as access to care. The worst part is that the university is attempting to keep this “hush hush” and not inform students about how this will impact their ability to receive mental health services. A FEE THAT IS ALREADY INCLUDED IN THEIR TUITION WITH THE EXPECTATION TO PAY MORE. Don’t forget the attempt to also do this in the midst of a global pandemic. Cleveland State doesn’t care about students. They care about profit.

Students at CSU are the focus of the university and access to quality wellness services should remain an integral part of the university. Having access in-house managed wellness resources are a positive asset for universities.
