Underfunding and eliminating mental health services seems absolutely moronic during these times. Are those in charge up on current events? This is a place of higher learning right? Where is the commitment to student well being?

These services are absolutely important for CSU students. There is a high incidence of suicide within first years college students. Adjustment and many other reasons are to justify the need of counseling and wellness services accessible to college students. International and out of state students need to have accessible services that are impossible for them to access out of CSU.

As an international student, a client of CSUCC, and a counseling program student, I strongly disagree with the decision of outsourcing the CSUCC. As an international student, I do not have the right to determine which insurance company I would like to be insured and which plan meets my needs the most. As of the plan CSU determined for us right now, seeking counseling service from other provider can cost from $30-$90 per session. With studying abroad, paying twice as much tuition as domestic student, and all other living expenses, the cost of seeking outside service is definitely a huge burden, especially when mental health is not something that could be healed in a short period of time. Therefore, CSUCC is the best option we have. As a client of CSUCC, I can tell from my personal experience that it really is a safe place to go to, and the staffs are all doing their best to help. I don’t have to worry about the therapist might not understand what’s going on on campus and I don’t have to spend too much time explaining the struggles I have with the school. Most importantly, they know who to contact and how to connect me with further assistance (ODS). CSUCC understands the school and students enough to provide the best service to this population especially. As a counseling program student, I know how insurance works. Clients HAVE TO HAVE a diagnosis to receive service, but do we really want to wait until then? Why can’t we intervene earlier to prevent clients from suffering from mental health disorders? CSUCC is open to whoever that needs the service, isn’t this what counseling is for? Based on my personal experiences of being the person who RECEIVE the service, and the person who PROVIDE the service, I strongly disagree with the decision of outsourcing CSUCC. Please stand in our shoes and make a decision that really benefits us the most! Thank you!
